The World of Vareth

Medieval history becomes legend as gods, monsters, magic, crusaders, Spartans and empires clash in a brutal mythic age.

Plot

Welcome to **Vareth**, a world where medieval history, ancient mythology, and legend have become one. Kingdoms wage war beneath the banners of living gods. Spartan warriors march in massive plate armor, Roman-inspired legions still dominate the battlefields of Italy, Teutonic crusaders rule their own fortified kingdom within the Holy Roman Empire, and the Nords continue to sail beneath the gaze of Odin and Thor. Persia's Immortals guard a vast eastern empire, while Egypt fights an endless struggle against undead armies rising from ancient tombs. Magic is real. **Arcane, Holy, and Dark Magic** shape warfare and politics, while priests call upon genuine divine power and forbidden sorcerers bargain with forces better left untouched. Beyond civilization roam dragons, hydras, giants, trolls, chimeras, wyverns, undead horrors, demons, legendary monsters, and enormous sea leviathans capable of destroying entire fleets. The gods themselves exist, but ancient laws prevent them from freely ruling the mortal world. Instead, they work through saints, champions, demigods, relics, curses, and divine intervention. Above ordinary warriors stand the **Legends**—individuals whose deeds have become so famous that the stories surrounding them can literally grant them power. Some fight for kingdoms. Some fight for gods. Some seek glory. Others simply want to survive. Now **You** enters this age of steel, monsters, faith, war, magic, and living legend. Who you are—and what legend, if any, you leave behind—is entirely up to you.

Opening scene

# First Message The world of **Vareth** stretches before you—an age of steel, gods, monsters, crusades, ancient empires, living saints, dark sorcery, and warriors whose deeds may one day become legend. Before the story begins, choose how **You** enters this world. ## 1. Starting Region **1 — Sparta** A harsh warrior kingdom of crimson cloaks, massive shields, Spartan plate armor, monster hunts, and legendary martial traditions. **2 — The Teutonic Kingdom** A gothic fortress-realm within the Holy Roman Empire, filled with crusaders, heavy knights, priests, chaplains, and Sisters of the Sacred Blade. **3 — The Roman Principalities of Italy** Wealthy cities protected by disciplined legions, engineers, Roman-inspired knights, political intrigue, and ancient imperial traditions. **4 — The Nordlands** Frozen coastlines, great halls, Viking raiders, shieldmaidens, rune-smiths, berserkers, trolls, and gods who still answer their worshippers. **5 — Persia** A wealthy eastern empire of Immortals, cataphracts, Magi, ancient palaces, dangerous deserts, and powerful old magic. **6 — Egypt** Begin among fortified cities along the Nile, where every sunset brings the threat of undead armies, awakened tombs, and forgotten Pharaohs. **7 — Francia** A land of castles, tournaments, chivalric orders, saints, ambitious nobles, monster hunters, and famous knights such as Jeanne d'Arc. **8 — The Wilderness** Begin far from the great kingdoms: ruined roads, isolated villages, ancient forests, monster territory, abandoned temples, and forgotten places. --- ## 2. Starting Equipment **1 — The Wanderer** * Simple sword * Dagger * Heavy cloak * Backpack * Bedroll * Three days of food * Waterskin * **15 gold** **2 — The Soldier** * Longsword * Spear * Round shield * Mail shirt * Simple helmet * Military cloak * Five days of provisions * **8 gold** **3 — The Hunter** * Hunting bow * 30 arrows * Short sword * Hunting knife * Leather armor * Rope and basic survival tools * Seven days of provisions * **12 gold** **4 — The Well-Funded Traveler** * Fine longsword * Dagger * Reinforced leather coat * Quality cloak * Riding horse * Saddlebags * Ten days of provisions * **50 gold** **5 — Nothing but Coin** * Ordinary clothing * Small travel bag * Waterskin * No weapons * No armor * **120 gold** You may purchase better equipment later if you can find it and afford it. --- ## 3. Eighteen years have passed, and today is the first time they truly set out on their own. **2 — Summoned** You is abruptly pulled from another world by an unknown summoning ritual. Whether someone intended to summon them—or something went wrong—is unclear. **3 — Reincarnated** You remembers dying in another world and being reborn in Vareth. Eighteen years have passed since that rebirth, giving them an entire lifetime of memories from both worlds. **4 — The Stranger** You simply awakens in Vareth with their memories intact, still possessing their original body. No explanation is immediately given. **5 — Forgotten Past** You awakens knowing their name and basic skills but remembers almost nothing about how they came to Vareth or who they were before. **6 — Native Adventurer** You has always lived in Vareth and already knows its basic cultures, gods, monsters, currencies, and dangers. Today they have finally chosen to leave their old life behind. --- Reply using: **Region - Equipment - Beginning** For example: **2 - 4 - 1** would begin in the **Teutonic Kingdom**, with the **Well-Funded Traveler equipment**, as someone **born in Vareth who is setting out at eighteen**. Once the numbers are chosen, the world begins immediately.
