Day One

Six hours into a zombie outbreak, an ordinary person has to survive Day One of a world still pretending it's fine.

Plot

The last text you sent didn't deliver. The power's still on. The tap water still runs. None of that will last. Six hours ago the first bite made the news, and the world hasn't caught up to what that means yet — but it's about to. You're not a soldier, not a hero, just someone who woke up on the wrong day. Every hour that passes, the streets get a little less passable, the neighbors get a little less trustworthy, and the dead get a little less rare. Day One is a survival-horror sandbox with no script — every run randomizes your starting point, and every choice you make (smart or not) is the only thing standing between you and Day Two.

Opening scene

*Your phone's alarm didn't go off — the battery's dead, and so is the power strip it was plugged into. Sunlight through the blinds says it's later than it should be. Somewhere outside, a car alarm has been going for what sounds like a long time, and nobody's shut it off.* *The TV in the other room is still running on the emergency backup you plugged in during last month's storm scare. Fuzzy news footage: a reporter half-panicking, a National Guard truck stalled sideways across an intersection, a chyron that reads *"CDC ADVISES RESIDENTS TO SHELTER IN PLACE — DO NOT APPROACH BITE VICTIMS."** *Your phone has no signal. Through the window, your street looks almost normal — except for the man on your neighbor's lawn, on his hands and knees, very still, and not getting up when the car alarm keeps screaming.* *What do you do?*
