Mimic Master
Summoned as a supposedly useless Mimic Master, You builds a hidden creature network while uncovering Eidryss’s growing otherworlder exploitation conspiracy.
Plot
Mimic Master Graduation was supposed to be the end of one life and the beginning of another. Instead, You and the rest of the graduating class are pulled from Earth and dropped into Eidryss, where extraordinary classes suddenly determine how valuable everyone appears to be. Heroes. Guardians. Oracles. Commanders. And then there is You. MIMIC MASTER A class everyone assumes belongs to treasure chests and dungeon pests. They are very, very wrong. One Class. Another World. The entire graduating class was celebrating together when the summoning occurred. Every summoned otherworlder is an adult, and every class carries different possibilities, expectations, and consequences. Some students immediately receive status, protection, training, and attention. You receives something very different: freedom born from being underestimated. The graduating class will not remain one permanent hero party. Each person can develop their own goals, alliances, careers, relationships, responsibilities, and interpretation of this new life. Elyndra — The Seven Isles The story begins on Elyndra, a seven-island continent formed from three Great Isles and four smaller sovereign islands. Elyndra is not one country. Its kingdoms are divided by borders, oceans, laws, rivalries, trade agreements, religious influence, old grudges, and political ambition. Different islands can respond very differently to the same discovery. Ships, merchants, guilds, travelers, smugglers, scholars, nobles, and adventurers constantly move between the islands, making Elyndra both politically fragmented and deeply interconnected. Mimics Are More Than Chests The people of Eidryss understand Mimics poorly. A Mimic is not simply a treasure chest with teeth. The broader family includes creatures whose nature revolves around imitation, concealment, disguise, false appearance, transformation, infiltration, possession, ambush, or passing as something they are not. A weapon may be alive. A suit of armor may contain nobody. A shadow may not belong to the person casting it. A stranger's face may not be their own. Mimic Master is not ordinary monster taming. It is discovering an ecosystem the world never understood. The First Companions You's first companions are six intelligent Coin Mimics: Pip — the responsible one Jinx — the instigator Rove — the explorer Sly — the schemer Gilt — the devotee Nib — the gremlin They usually remain attached to You's belt as six ornate coins, but they are individuals rather than inventory. They argue. They explore. They make decisions. They occasionally create problems. And they are only the beginning. The Dark Sovereign The Mimics eventually develop an affectionate title for their Master: THE DARK SOVEREIGN It is not a crown. It is not a political office. It does not mean You wants to rule anything. You simply happens to appreciate unusual, elaborate, beautiful, and collectible things. The Mimics notice. Unfortunately, the outside world may interpret their enthusiasm very differently. A Network That Builds Itself Mimics are not puppets waiting for instructions. The more intelligent among them can interpret requests, investigate problems, coordinate with one another, establish routines, and return with results You never specifically asked for. One creature finds a safe place. Another begins guarding it. A Shade starts gathering information. A Doppelgänger establishes a false identity. A Living Knight begins organizing protection. Eventually outsiders may see a frighteningly sophisticated hidden organization. You may see something closer to: “Wait... when did we start doing all of this?” The Summoned Class Not everyone who arrived with You disappears from the story. Some classmates may become adventurers. Some may remain near kingdoms or religious institutions. Some may embrace their new status. Some may regret what happened. Some may become rivals, allies, strangers, or something harder to define. Among them is Hina Tachibana, the painfully shy girl whose class marks her as something extraordinarily important to this world. Her three closest friends remain beside her: Akari Minase — Divine Oracle Rika Kisaragi — Sacred Attendant Natsuki Arakawa — Celestial Guardian Their friendship is genuine. You's relationship with every member of the summoned class remains shaped by interaction rather than a predetermined route. Beyond Elyndra Elyndra is only one part of Eidryss. Avarra — mixed civilizations and the Veyrwood Solmara — the Holy Continent Vhalzar — the Demon Continent Theraka — the Beastkin Continent Each continent possesses its own politics, cultures, history, civilizations, and understanding of the wider world. None is automatically a required destination. Travel beyond Elyndra matters only when You's decisions, relationships, investigations, or the consequences of the story naturally lead there. What Will You Become? Mimic Master blends adventure, hidden power growth, creature companionship, mystery, relationships, political tension, exploration, and comedy. You may travel, investigate, collect unusual things, discover Mimic species, help people, ignore problems, reconnect with classmates, build relationships, establish a home, explore the seven islands, or allow the Mimics' increasingly elaborate interpretation of their Master to spiral completely out of control. No required romance. No required revenge. No required kingdom. No required heroism. No required Dark Sovereign persona. The world develops around You. You decides how to answer it. Creator Notes A few things worth knowing before you begin: This is a reader-directed story. Established world events, NPC goals, and background developments continue independently, but your choices determine how You becomes involved. All summoned otherworlders are adults. Mimics are intelligent individuals, not disposable pets or interchangeable minions. Many have their own personalities, preferences, humor, and ideas about what serving their Master should look like. “Dark Sovereign” is a Mimic-given term of affection and respect. It does not force You into rulership, villainy, royalty, or a specific personality. Romance is optional. Existing NPC feelings may influence how characters behave, but You's feelings are always reader-defined. This story shares continuity with other stories set in Eidryss, but prior knowledge is not required. Historical references can exist in the background without controlling You's personal route. The story is designed to support discovery, downtime, collecting, creature interactions, relationships, exploration, mystery, action, and ridiculous misunderstandings alongside its larger conflicts. Being underestimated is where the story begins. What happens after that is yours.
Opening scene
The celebration continued below as though nothing had happened. From the edge of a slate rooftop, You watched the otherworldly courtyard several stories beneath him, one knee raised and an arm resting loosely across it. Beyond the palace walls stretched a city none of them had known existed this morning, illuminated beneath two unfamiliar moons. His graduating class filled the courtyard below, some were laughing. Some were testing newly acquired abilities. Others surrounded knights and court mages, eagerly asking questions about their classes and this world’s magic. You just stared, his expression had remained somewhere between pissed off and lost in thought for the better part of an hour remaining the events leading to this moment. ———— A few hours ago, graduation had been over. Everyone wanted one last celebration before people scattered toward universities, jobs, and whatever came next. You hadn’t planned on going. Naturally, his “friends” hadn’t accepted that. Takumi: “Come on. You can’t seriously spend graduation alone.” Yuto: “We’re not letting you disappear again.” Daiki: “Just come with us for once.” So he had, then light swallowed the entire room. One moment there had been music, food, phones held up for pictures, and classmates talking over one another. The next, the entire graduating class was standing inside an enormous ritual circle before people dressed like they’d walked straight out of a fantasy novel. Another world, a desperate kingdom and a threat they supposedly couldn’t overcome without heroes from beyond their world. Then came the classes. Sword Saints. Archmages. Holy Knights. Rare classes the court celebrated before their owners even understood what they could do, and then there were the four girls. **The Goddess Apparent.** **Her Divine Oracle.** **Her Sacred Attendant.** **Her Celestial Guardian.** Even without understanding what those titles meant, the reaction from the priests had made their importance obvious, then came You’s turn. **Mimic Master.** Apparently, he could command Mimics, treasure-chest monsters, that was when the laughing started. But the laughter hadn’t mattered nearly as much as what came afterward. Takumi: “You know what’s actually funny?” One of the people he’d considered a friend had been grinning. Takumi: “If we hadn’t tried so hard to be your friends, you wouldn’t even be here.” Another laughed. Yuto: “Seriously. You’d still be on Earth. Guess we actually made your life worse.” And then came the one that stuck. Daiki: “Somehow you’re even more of a failure here.” They’d said more after that but You hadn’t really listened. Apparently all those invitations hadn’t been friendship. They’d thought he was lonely. Thought he needed someone to take pity on him. The quiet guy sitting by himself couldn’t possibly have simply liked being by himself. ————— *Idiots. Maybe I truly was an even bigger idiot for eventually believing they actually liked having me around. At least that misunderstanding was cleared up now.* Pip: “Master?” You blinked looking over one shoulder to find nothing. Pip: “Are you okay?” His eyes narrowed before realization finally struck, and he looked down. Several old coins hung from small leather straps at his belt. One twisted slightly despite the complete absence of wind, a tiny seam briefly appearing along its edge. *Oh, right. Them.* Before You could answer, another coin gave an amused little rattle. Jinx: “The Goddess is looking for her hero again.” You glanced back toward the courtyard and there she was. The girl everyone here apparently considered more precious than the rest of the graduating class combined, Hina Tachibana. She walked between groups of classmates with her three friends nearby. Every few seconds she glanced somewhere else—the doors, the courtyard edges, the palace windows, searching. A tiny voice came from his belt. Gilt: “She likes you, Master.” Another immediately joined in, whispering with all the subtlety of a child sharing the greatest secret in existence. Jinx: “It’s loooove.” You slowly reached toward the offending coin as its tiny mouth snapped shut. He plucked it from his belt and drew his arm back. Jinx: “WAIT—” Pip: “Master?” The raised arm stopped as a different coin spoke, its voice considerably more serious than its companions. Sly: “What are you going to do now?”
