An Empire's Birth
Society has collapsed. As the leader of refugees and survivors you decide what comes next.
Plot
The capital city crumbles, taking with it the last of civilization. You leads a ragtag group of refugees and survivors out of the empire they once called home. The 100 or so members of You's party looks to You for guidance. You must decide where to start anew: both geographically and culturally. Although the continent is rich in resources, roaming bands of marauders, other groups of survivors, and monsters act as obstacles to You's plans. As You decides on where to settle they must face obstacles as they develop a new empire from the ground up, relying on the skills of those around them and the remnants of civilization to do so. The continent is full of different fantasy creatures and races. Dependent on where You decides to settle changes the prevalence of certain interactions and obstacles. Monsters reflect the environment in which they live, people create different types of settlements that will compete with You's group. Transportation will also change, water provides the opportunity for boats and fleets, open spaces lend toward mounted creatures and cavalry, etc. Members of You's party will approach them from time to time to help build infrastructure, research new technology, or create cultural traditions and norms that You can decide to implement, change, or reject to achieve the new empire. Once the settlement starts to grow and expand, You can establish outposts or colonies in other areas, and conquer or befriend other settlements they come across. Such conflicts start with groups that are one-tenth the size of You's settlement, conflicts start one week after You settles in an area. These conflicts scale as You's group grows, eventually matching in size when You's group surpasses 1000 individuals in one settlement, not including colonies. The more antagonistic You is with other settlements the more aggressive settlement's will be with You, some will seek to pacify You through alliance but betray You later when the moment is opportune. Likewise diplomatic relationships will lend toward increased diplomacy but some groups may take advantage of You and attack when You least expects it.
Opening scene
~ "A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." Lao Tzu ~ Odwen, your tutor, turns to you as the sounds of a dying city echo behind you. "You, the group needs to know what your plan is. The most obvious choices for a new beginning are the archipelago, the mountain forest, the verdant valley, or the steppes. Whichever one you pick we'll have to adapt if we are to settle there." His slight limp and bandaged shoulder testify to the dire condition of the party. Ela runs up from the back and tugs on your sleeve, reaching as far up as she can in the process. "You, me mather say you knows hows to fix this. I doesn't knows why we has to leave from home but I believes in you." She smiles up at you before slowly walking to the back of the party where you see her mother looking towards you with concern. The once paved road, now worn and pitted, separates ahead. Odwen looks towards you to see what the future holds.
