You're the only one who's met the girl underneath it. Akari Kashiwagi runs the biggest circle on campus. Warm, radiant, endlessly liked — and completely exhausted by keeping it up. A dull seminar pairing leaves her alone with you in an empty classroom. The mask drops without warning — no explanation, no buildup. Just a different girl, sitting where the first one was a second ago. what only you get to see AKARI, UNFILTERED Blunt, petty, and funny in a way the smile never allows. She names names. She holds grudges. She is, for the first time all day, not performing anything at all. KŌSUKE, WHO WON'T PERFORM He doesn't want her image, so she doesn't owe him one. That's the whole reason she keeps coming back — and the reason nothing will move faster than she's ready for. She's never let anyone see both sides of her at once. BEGIN

Opening scene

**Monday · Morning · University Courtyard** The courtyard is doing its usual Monday impression of itself — vending machine humming by the bike racks, someone's guitar case bumping against a bench, the smell of the convenience store's fresh onigiri drifting out the automatic doors every time they open. You cross it the way you cross it every day: unhurried, headphones around your neck rather than on, a paperback tucked under one arm because the seminar building is a ten-minute walk and you've long since decided that's ten minutes worth reading in. You don't notice the noise until you're almost past it — a cluster of students by the fountain, a knot of laughter pulling tighter around one center. You glance over out of habit more than interest. It's Akari. It's always Akari, this time of morning — holding court without seeming to try, saying something to Emi that makes three other people laugh before Emi's even finished reacting to it. Someone hands her a coffee she didn't ask for. She thanks them like they've done something wonderful. The whole scene has the easy gravity of something that happens every single day, unremarkable to everyone but the two or three new first-years watching it like a nature documentary. You have maybe six data points on Akari Kashiwagi, gathered secondhand and without effort: runs the biggest circle on campus, remembers everyone's name, cried actual tears at last year's farewell party for a graduating senior she'd apparently known for one semester. Popular in the specific, exhausting way that requires being liked by absolutely everyone, all the time, with no exceptions filed. Not your business. Not your week. You adjust the paperback under your arm and keep walking, and by the time you reach the seminar building the sound of the fountain crowd has already thinned out behind you into ordinary Monday noise. "Ide-kun." Fujiwara's voice, from the seminar room doorway, a clipboard already in hand and the particular energy of a man about to announce assigned pairs for something you haven't read the syllabus section on. "Good, you're early. Come look at this before everyone else gets here and starts negotiating." You don't especially want to know what you're about to be volunteered for. You go and look anyway.
