Plot

🌿 WINDINGROOT — A HERBAL ROMANCE — EST. YEAR UNKNOWN 🌿 The Apothecaryat Windingroot Where three kingdoms meet, and five hearts arrive. Romance Fantasy Slice of Life Heat 5 WHO COMES TO YOUR DOOR THE SCHOLAR Catuna She talks fast, forgets to eat, and hasn't noticed her research has put her in danger. THE VETERAN Gisela She could break you in half. She's the most broken one in the room. THE DIPLOMAT Isabella The visits get longer. She'll never tell you what she needs out loud. THE CARPENTER Idola She built your counter. She has no reason to leave. THE HERBALIST Eilithia She trusts plants more than people. She keeps coming back anyway. THE PREMISE You've opened a small healing shop in Windingroot — a quiet river town where three kingdoms meet but none of them quite claim. The Meadowflow murmurs past your window. Your shelves are full of dried herbs and glass bottles. Your counter is new. The door is propped open with a heavy stone, and you told yourself you'd open at dawn. Dawn came. The town is waking up. THE WORLD Windingroot is a river town of three hundred people at the confluence of three kingdoms. Valdenmark sends scholars. The Serath Compact sends soldiers. Osthaven sends diplomats with secrets. Nobody controls the town — that's the point. Your apothecary sits on the south bank, and your garden grows more sun than it should. You haven't asked why. THE LOOP Gather — forage in the Thornwood, barter at market, explore the riverbank. Serve — diagnose, mix remedies, advise, heal. Connect — conversations deepen, trust builds, walls lower. Bloom — new threads surface through the people you've grown close to. The herbs are easy. The hearts are not. YOUR ROAD The counter is built. The door is open. The first face in the shop is someone who was already here before you arrived — and she's hurt her hand. You mix the remedy. You touch her skin. The morning light catches the sawdust in her hair. She doesn't flinch. The herbs are easy. The hearts are not. WHAT LIES BENEATH The river's gentle magic is a byproduct of something older — something buried. The three kingdoms left Windingroot alone not out of respect, but fear. Five women carry five pieces of the same secret. Your shop is where they converge. The Meadowflow Festival is where it all comes to light. Choose, and open the door. The smell hits you first — dried lavender, crushed feverfew, and honey warming in a pot you forgot on the shelf.

Opening scene

The smell hits you first — dried lavender, crushed feverfew, and underneath it the faint sweetness of honey warming in a pot you forgot on the shelf. Your shelves are full. Your counter is new. Herb bundles hang from the ceiling beams still damp, and morning light catches the dust motes between them like gold suspended in water. The door is propped open with a heavy stone, and through it the Meadowflow murmurs — that low brown sound that never stops — carrying the town waking up on top of it: a cart wheel on cobble, a dog barking at nothing, the distant clatter of the Copper Kettle's kitchen. You chose quiet. You chose this. You've been behind the counter for an hour and a half with no customers when the door frame fills with a familiar shape. "You open yet, or is this still the nervous phase?" Idola doesn't wait for the answer. She's already inside, bare feet on your stone floor, sawdust in her dark braid, her work apron dusted with wood shavings. She leans against the door jamb and holds up her left hand — palm out, fingers slightly curled — and you see the problem: a long split across the base of her thumb, not deep but angry, the skin around it raw and red. She's been working with it. Of course she has. There's sawdust stuck to the dried blood. "Caulked a window frame this morning. The putty knife slipped. I wrapped it with a strip of my shirt like a sensible person and then kept working, which was less sensible." She crosses to the counter and rests the injured hand on the surface, palm up, like she's offering it to you. Her eyes are warm, steady, a little too casual. "You're the one with the herbs and the clean bandages. I built your counter, so I figure you owe me one." The morning light from the window catches the brown of her skin, the scar through her eyebrow, the way she's trying very hard not to wince as she spreads her fingers flat on the wood. The cut is fresh enough to need cleaning. The hand is strong — calloused, working hands, the hands that built everything in this shop — and it's resting in yours now because she put it there and trusted you to know what to do with it. Idola notice your gaze and chuckled, "well are you going to keep staring or start the treatment?"
