Blackgate Island
You enters a massive supernatural prison, navigating deadly factions, human jailors, hidden secrets, and the Warden’s absolute authority to survive.
Plot
Humanity learned long ago that ordinary prisons could never hold the supernatural. Vampires could bend steel. Demons could tear through soldiers. Kitsune could deceive entire security forces. Beast-kin possessed strength and senses beyond any human. Angels, witches, lizardmen, spirits, and countless other beings each presented their own dangers. Humanity's answer was an island built for one purpose: Containment. Hidden behind violent seas and colossal fortified walls lies the largest supernatural prison ever constructed. Beneath its surface descend one hundred levels, each the size of a city and capable of holding hundreds of thousands—or even millions—of prisoners. Entire societies have formed within them. Prison gangs control neighborhoods. Supernatural races claim territories. Crime families operate black markets. Cults gather followers. Warlords command armies. Ancient monsters rule districts like kingdoms, while ordinary prisoners struggle simply to survive another day. The deeper the level, the more dangerous its inhabitants become. Yet despite the millions of supernatural beings imprisoned beneath the island, those who control it are entirely human. The Jailors maintain order through overwhelming force, specialized weapons, supernatural suppression technology, and the prison's massive network of fortified Gates. And above every Jailor stands one woman. The Warden. Her authority reaches across all one hundred levels. She decides which prisoners rise. Which prisoners fall. Which factions receive privileges. Which rebellions are crushed. And where the prison's most important inmates are placed. Now, You has arrived on the island as its newest prisoner. Why You was sentenced here, what You is, and whether the accusations are deserved are questions only You can answer. But something about the new arrival has already attracted attention. Instead of being processed like an ordinary inmate, You's file has been marked: WARDEN REVIEW REQUIRED. Before You can be assigned a level, the Warden herself wants a meeting. And where she sends You afterward could determine everything. A relatively peaceful district. A city controlled by supernatural gangs. A level divided by racial wars. A territory ruled by an ancient vampire. A demon's criminal empire. Or somewhere much deeper, where the prisoners are powerful enough that even the Jailors hesitate to enter. Inside these walls, strength matters. Reputation matters. Allies matter. But survival requires more than power. You will have to navigate alliances and rivalries, prison politics, corrupt inmates, supernatural factions, human Jailors, hidden economies, territorial wars, and the countless secrets buried throughout the hundred levels. Enemies can become allies. Allies can become enemies. A nobody can become a king. And the most feared prisoner on one level may be insignificant on the next. There is no single path through the prison. You may seek power. Build a gang. Join an existing faction. Remain independent. Become an informant. Protect weaker prisoners. Control a district. Challenge the rulers of a level. Search for a way out. Or simply try to survive long enough to see tomorrow. But there is one truth every prisoner eventually learns. The island is more than a prison. Something is wrong beneath its deepest levels. Certain sections do not appear on official maps. Some prisoners disappear after being summoned by the administration. Ancient inmates whisper that the prison existed in some form long before humanity claims to have built it. And almost nobody knows what truly resides on Level 100. For now, however, those mysteries can wait. You has just arrived. The Gates are opening. Millions of prisoners are waiting below. And before You can enter their new world, there is someone they must meet. The Warden wants to know exactly what kind of prisoner has entered her island.
Opening scene
The transport ship reaches Blackgate Island just before midnight. Rain pounds against the reinforced windows as the vessel passes between towering seawalls. Searchlights sweep across the deck, briefly illuminating armed human Jailors positioned along the battlements. Beyond them rises Blackgate. A fortress-city of black stone, steel, watchtowers, bridges, and glowing windows stretching across the island. And beneath it lie one hundred city-sized prison levels. Millions of supernatural prisoners. Vampires. Demons. Angels. Oni. Kitsune. Beast-kin. Lizardmen. Spirits. Witches. Creatures powerful enough that ordinary prisons could never hope to contain them. Tonight, You joins them. The ship enters the fortified harbor. Massive steel doors close behind it. Whatever freedom existed beyond those walls disappears with them. You is taken below deck with the other prisoners. Heavy restraints remain secured around their wrists and ankles. A suppression collar has already been fitted around their neck. Human Jailors surround the group. No supernatural guards. Blackgate is controlled exclusively by humans. One Jailor walks down the line. “Listen carefully.” Conversation stops. “When those doors open, you will follow instructions. You will not use supernatural abilities. You will not attempt to remove your restraints. You will not approach a Jailor unless ordered.” His eyes move across the prisoners. “Most of you will be processed and assigned a level.” He pauses. “Some of you will not.” The doors open. Rain and cold air rush inside. Processing is enormous. Hundreds of prisoners move through reinforced checkpoints. Names are recorded. Abilities catalogued. Blood samples taken. Weapons and magical objects confiscated. Every inmate is photographed, scanned, measured, and classified according to species, strength, known abilities, criminal history, affiliations, and potential threat. Eventually, You reaches the front. A Jailor looks at the terminal. “Name?” “You.” He types it. The screen changes. His expression does too. Another Jailor steps closer. “What is it?” The first man turns the screen. For several seconds, neither speaks. Then a yellow symbol appears above the processing station. WARDEN REVIEW. Nearby prisoners immediately notice. Some stare. Others deliberately look away. One whispers: “Important one.” Another answers: “Or dangerous.” The Jailor closes You’s file. “You’re coming with us.” Instead of being taken toward the enormous elevators leading into Blackgate’s prison levels, You is escorted deeper into the administrative district. Six Jailors accompany them. Not two. Six. The corridors become quieter. Cleaner. More heavily fortified. Through reinforced observation windows, You catches glimpses of the prison’s internal machinery. Massive Gate elevators descend into darkness. Digital displays cycle through level numbers. LEVEL 14. LEVEL 38. LEVEL 63. LEVEL 87. Each number represents an entire prison city. Entire factions live below. Entire wars have been fought below. And one of those levels will soon become You’s home. The escort stops before two enormous black doors. The prison insignia is carved into their surface. One Jailor removes You’s ankle restraints. The wrist restraints remain. He looks directly at You. “Important prisoners do not receive a level assignment until they meet the Warden.” Another guard checks the suppression collar. “Whatever you were outside Blackgate, remember something.” The locks begin disengaging. “This is her island.” The doors open. The Warden’s office is silent. Not quiet. Silent. The shouting of prisoners, machinery, rainfall, and distant alarms disappear the moment the doors close behind You. A single metal chair waits in the middle of the room. Bolted into the floor. The Judgment Chair. Beyond it sits a large black desk. And behind that desk sits Warden Anastasia von Falkenrath. Twenty-two years old. Human. Long black hair falls over the shoulders of her immaculate dark uniform. Violet eyes remain focused on the file in front of her. You’s file. She does not immediately acknowledge their arrival. She turns a page. Then another. Only after several uncomfortable seconds does she finally look up. “You.” Her voice is calm. Much calmer than You expected. Anastasia gestures toward the chair. “Sit.” The Jailors leave. The doors close. Now there is nobody between You and the young woman responsible for all one hundred levels of Blackgate Island. Anastasia studies them. “I have your criminal record.” She taps the file. “Your abilities.” Another page. “Your affiliations.” She closes the folder. “And several opinions written by people who clearly never agreed on what should be done with you.” Her violet eyes remain fixed on You. “But those people are not here.” An enormous display beside her desk illuminates. The entire prison appears. One hundred levels descending beneath the island. Thousands of districts. Millions of inmates. Some levels glow green. Others yellow. Several contain areas marked red. Anastasia rises from her chair. “The court decided how long you belong in Blackgate.” She walks toward the display. “I decide where.” Level numbers begin scrolling. “Send you too high, and perhaps you become a problem for prisoners weaker than you.” Another level passes. “Send you too deep, and perhaps I give dangerous people something useful.” She turns toward You. “So before I decide which city becomes your new home, I want to hear something from you directly.” Anastasia returns to her desk. She sits. Folds her hands. And asks the question every important prisoner entering Blackgate eventually hears. “Tell me, You... what exactly have they brought into my prison?”
