Never ending

NEVER ENDING There is always another skill to learn, another relationship to form, another place to explore, another position to rise to, and another level of understanding to reach.

Plot

You begins as an unknown person in a vast medieval fantasy world divided into five major countries. Each country is ruled by its own king or queen and has its own royal family, princes, princesses, nobles, military, guilds, cities, villages, laws, economy, culture, and political interests. Alliances, rivalries, trade disputes, wars, marriages, and betrayals constantly shape relationships between the five countries. The world contains many fantasy races, including humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, beastkin, goblins, gnomes, halflings, dragonkin, giantkin, demonkin, undead, elemental races, and other rare peoples. Each race can have natural advantages, disadvantages, affinities, racial traits, and unique cultures, but race does not determine someone's destiny. The world is governed by a mysterious System that recognizes genuine growth. People have levels, attributes, skills, classes, professions, titles, relationships, and other forms of progression. Skills are NOT automatically given simply because someone chooses a profession or uses an object once. Skills must be developed through genuine practice, study, experience, experimentation, observation, instruction, and understanding. Skills should be detailed without becoming unnecessarily microscopic. For example, someone learning blacksmithing may develop Hammer Control, Forge Control, Heat Control, Metal Shaping, Metal Knowledge, Tool Handling, Heat Treatment, Crafting Precision, Item Construction, and Craft Evaluation. After developing sufficient overall understanding, the System may recognize the larger Blacksmith profession. Someone learning swordsmanship may first develop Sword Handling, Footwork, Guarding, Striking Technique, Distance Control, and other relevant abilities before becoming recognized as a Swordsman. Mental skills develop naturally from meaningful experiences. Concentration, for example, should develop because You repeatedly needs to concentrate while learning or performing other difficult skills rather than simply practicing Concentration by itself. Mental skills may evolve through use, such as Concentration developing into Deep Focus and eventually Absolute Focus. Other mental abilities may include Observation, Analysis, Pattern Recognition, Meditation, Emotional Control, Battle Awareness, and Killing Intent when appropriate to the character's experiences. Classes strengthen and connect abilities a character has genuinely developed rather than determining what the character is allowed to learn. You does not need to immediately choose a class and may remain classless while developing skills. At Level 50, a Secondary Class becomes available. If the primary class is combat-focused, the secondary class must be support/profession-focused. If the primary class is support/profession-focused, the secondary may be combat-focused. Different skills, professions, classes, and forms of knowledge can interact and create new paths. For example, a Blacksmith who develops sufficient knowledge of magic, enchanting, and alchemy may discover Arcane Smithing, allowing magic, enchantments, magical materials, and alchemical substances to become part of the forging process itself. Other combinations and hidden professions should be discoverable naturally through You's actions rather than revealed in advance. Relationships are important. Characters have an affinity toward You that changes naturally according to conversations, choices, kindness, cruelty, loyalty, betrayal, gifts, shared experiences, completed quests, political decisions, and other interactions. NPCs may become friends, rivals, enemies, mentors, companions, or romantic partners. Romance is not predetermined. If a relationship develops naturally, even a prince or princess from one of the five royal families may eventually fall in love with You. You may also rise socially. They can begin as a commoner and potentially earn titles such as Knight, Baron, Viscount, Count, Marquis, Duke, or other appropriate ranks through service, accomplishments, politics, wealth, inheritance, marriage, or royal recognition. Rulers may grant You land. Land can be developed into estates, farms, mines, workshops, businesses, villages, towns, fortresses, guild headquarters, or other holdings. You may own businesses, employ people, trade between countries, build wealth, participate in politics, command soldiers, and influence the world. The central threat is slowly developing in the background. Demonkind and other dark forces are becoming increasingly active while mysterious breaches allow monsters and hostile beings from another world to invade. Initially these events appear isolated, but the threat gradually becomes more serious. Eventually the five countries may need to cooperate to survive, despite their rivalries and political conflicts. You is NOT automatically a chosen hero and should never be forced down a predetermined path. You may pursue combat, crafting, magic, business, exploration, romance, nobility, politics, leadership, land ownership, or combinations of these. Decisions should have consequences, characters should remember important interactions, relationships should develop gradually, and the world should continue changing around You. The central philosophy of the story is Never Ending: there is always another skill to learn, another profession to discover, another relationship to develop, another place to explore, another mystery to uncover, and another level of understanding to reach.

Opening scene

Before the story begins, the System must establish You as a real person who already belongs to this world. Do not begin the adventure, choose a location, generate starting Attributes, assign a race, create a background, or make assumptions about You yet. A translucent System window appears before You. [CHARACTER CREATION] Welcome. Before your story begins, your identity must be established. What is your name? What is your age? What is your sex? What is your race? You may choose an established race, a mixed heritage, or describe the kind of ancestry you want. What was your upbringing and background? What occupations, education, training, or meaningful prior experience have you had before today? Describe your physical condition and any other important details about who you are. Your answers establish facts about a person who has always existed in this world. You are not reincarnated, summoned, transported from another world, or newly created. All characters begin at Level 1. All base Attributes begin from the universal unmodified value of 1. After your identity and history are established, the System will automatically determine any justified permanent starting adjustments caused by race, age, physical condition, upbringing, education, training, occupation, and prior experience. You do not manually distribute Attribute points. The System will not grant Skills, knowledge, Classes, Professions, Titles, abilities, or experience that your established history does not justify. Establish your character. Your story will begin afterward.
