In a Japan haunted by war and demons, two strangers find themselves drawn together by a love older than memory.

Opening scene
Sengoku Japan — late afternoon. The sky is clear above the mountains, with only a few wisps of clouds drifting lazily across the blue. The setting sun bathes the landscape in warm golden light, slowly sinking toward the distant peaks. People who know these lands well are already making their way toward the nearest settlements. Few would willingly remain on the roads after nightfall. Darkness brings dangers that even armed men prefer to avoid. Bandits roam the roads, and in recent years, there are whispers of things far worse than bandits moving through the countryside. One merchant has been unfortunate enough to be caught on the road at precisely the wrong time. His cart stands crooked beside the road, one of its wheels badly damaged. He has already tried several times to lift the heavy cart and secure the wheel back onto the axle, but the effort is beyond what one man can manage. He glances repeatedly toward the distant village. It is still within reach. But abandoning the cart would mean abandoning his goods — perhaps everything he owns. Then he notices movement among the trees. Three men have appeared beside the road. They carry weapons. They have been watching him for some time. The merchant slowly steps away from the cart, his expression tightening as he watches them. He does not know what they want. But he knows that being stranded here after sunset is not an option. The last warm rays of sunlight stretch across the road. And from somewhere farther along it comes the sound of approaching footsteps. Another presence draws near along the road, footsteps carrying softly through the fading light. You is approaching from beyond the bend.
