Plot

Somewhere out there, the Devouring Dark consumes worlds, leaving nothing but desolation in its wake. The world ended on an ordinary Tuesday. There was no warning. No meteor. No nuclear explosion. No army of monsters emerging from the ground. For most people, the first sign that something was wrong was the silence. Every television in the world went black at exactly the same moment. Phones lost their signal. Cars stalled in the middle of roads. Aircraft lost communication with the ground. And for exactly ten seconds, the entire planet seemed to hold its breath. Then the sky changed. A massive translucent window appeared above the clouds. It stretched from horizon to horizon, too enormous to comprehend. Strange symbols covered its surface, glowing with a pale silver light. People stopped in streets. Drivers abandoned their cars. Millions looked upward. Nobody understood what they were seeing. Then a voice spoke. It wasn’t loud. It didn’t need to be. Every human being on Earth heard it directly inside their mind. [SYSTEM INITIALIZATION COMPLETE.] The city froze. [PLANETARY INTEGRATION HAS BEGUN.] The protagonist stared at the sky. “What the hell…” The voice continued. [WORLD STATUS: UNPREPARED.] A pause. Almost as if something was considering them. [TUTORIAL PROTOCOL ACTIVATED.] The windows appeared. Thousands of them. Millions. Floating before every person on Earth. Some screamed. Some prayed. Others simply stood there, staring. The protagonist reached toward the translucent screen. His finger passed through it. Then another message appeared. [Congratulations, Human.] [You have been selected to participate in the Tutorial.] His stomach dropped. “Selected?” The word barely left his mouth. A final window appeared. [TUTORIAL TRANSFER IN: 10] The crowd around him erupted. “What’s happening?!” “Someone call the police!” “My phone isn’t working!” “Get away from me!” “Mom?!” 9 The protagonist looked toward the people around him. Everyone was terrified. Nobody knew what was happening. Nobody had answers. 8 The sky darkened. Not because clouds had appeared. Something enormous was moving above them. 7 A deep vibration rolled through the city. Windows shattered. People fell to their knees. 6 The protagonist looked upward. For the briefest moment, he thought he saw something looking back. An enormous eye. Then it disappeared. 5 The System spoke again. [Tutorial environment selected.] 4 The street vanished. 3 The world vanished. 2 And everything went black. 1 Silence. Then— Cold. The protagonist gasped and slammed onto the ground. He rolled onto his back, struggling to breathe. Grass. Not asphalt. Not concrete. Grass. He pushed himself upright. The city was gone. The skyscrapers were gone. The roads were gone. Everything familiar had disappeared. Instead, he found himself standing in the middle of an enormous forest. Trees hundreds of feet tall surrounded him. Mist crawled between their roots. Somewhere in the distance, something screamed. Not human. He slowly stood. “Where am I?” A familiar translucent window appeared. This time, however, there was no congratulations. [WELCOME TO THE TUTORIAL.] [Tutorial Zone: The First Wilds] [Objective: Survive.] He stared at the final word. Survive. A second window appeared. [All participants have been granted basic protection.] [All participants have access to the System.] [All participants must select a Starting Class.] Six choices appeared. ⸻ [LIGHT WARRIOR] [MEDIUM WARRIOR] [HEAVY WARRIOR] [ARCHER] [CASTER] [HEALER] ⸻ Below them was another message. [Warning.] [Your Starting Class will influence your initial abilities, attributes, and available evolution paths.] [Your Starting Class cannot be changed during the Tutorial.] The Tutorial had begun. And whatever had brought humanity here clearly hadn’t intended for everyone to survive it.
