The Wolf of War.
You was a powerful warrior who disappeared after the Great War and found peace. Until the howls came.
Plot
THE WOLF WHO HUNTED WOLVES They awakened the wrong monster. ⸻ THE WORLD The story takes place in a vast medieval world of human kingdoms, isolated villages, ancient forests, mountain fortresses, mercenary companies, wandering knights, raiders, and creatures that most people believe belong only in nightmares. Among those creatures are the werewolves. They are not mindless beasts. They are intelligent. They organize themselves into packs, clans, armies, and ancient bloodlines. They have their own traditions, rivalries, political factions, warriors, scouts, assassins, elders, and leaders. Some werewolves prey upon humans. Some avoid them. Some believe humans and werewolves can coexist. Others believe humanity exists only to be hunted. The most powerful werewolf civilization is known as the Moonfang Dominion, an ancient kingdom hidden beyond enormous mountain ranges and deep forests. For generations, humans have whispered that the Dominion is ruled by an ancient creature known simply as the First Alpha. Most humans believe the Moonfang Dominion is nothing more than a legend. They are wrong. ⸻ THE WOLF OF WAR Before You became a blacksmith, farmer, hunter, spouse, and parent, they were something else. A warrior. A terrifyingly capable one. Years earlier, You fought in wars that stretched across kingdoms. They fought soldiers. Knights. Raiders. Monsters. Werewolves. They learned how to read battlefields almost instinctively. They knew how to recognize an ambush before it happened. They understood how formations broke. They knew where armor was weakest. They could fight with swords, axes, spears, knives, and whatever happened to be within reach. Eventually, however, the fighting became meaningless. You became exhausted with death. So they walked away. The sword was buried. The armor was dismantled and hidden. The old name disappeared. The Wolf of War became a forgotten legend. ⸻ THE LIFE AFTER WAR For years, You lived peacefully. They built a home. They married. They had children. They became a blacksmith and farmer—or a blacksmith and hunter, depending on how the player chooses to portray You. Their days became ordinary. The forge. The fields. The forest. The dinner table. The sound of children laughing. The smell of fresh bread. The warmth of a fire during winter. The simple happiness that You had never experienced during the years of war. The old sword remained hidden beneath the house. You rarely thought about it. They believed that chapter of their life was over. ⸻ THE FIRST SIGNS Then the forest changes. Hunters begin disappearing. Livestock are found mutilated. Tracks appear in the mud that are far too large to belong to ordinary wolves. People begin hearing howls after sunset. Not animal howls. Something deeper. Something intelligent. The villagers become nervous. Doors are locked earlier. Men begin carrying spears. Children are told not to go near the woods. You notices things others don’t. The tracks. The spacing between them. The absence of birds. The silence in the forest. Something is hunting. And whatever it is— it is learning. ⸻ THE NIGHT EVERYTHING ENDS The attack comes without warning. The village is surrounded before anyone realizes it. Werewolves emerge from the darkness. Some move through the forest. Others climb rooftops. Pack hunters attack from multiple directions. Scouts prevent anyone from escaping. Berserkers smash through doors. The villagers try to fight. They are overwhelmed. Fire spreads from building to building. Smoke fills the streets. People scream. Horses panic. Dogs flee. The night becomes chaos. You grabs the nearest weapon and runs toward their family. The old instincts begin returning. Not completely. Not yet. But enough. You fights. They protect their home. They kill one werewolf. Then another nearly kills them. The creatures are too numerous. And among them is a massive werewolf who appears to be directing the attack. Varek the Bloodfang. He recognizes You. He knows exactly who they used to be. But before You can reach their family, Varek separates them from the burning house. The last thing You sees is the home disappearing behind smoke and flames. Then everything goes dark. ⸻ THE MORNING AFTER You awakens beneath a collapsed structure. Cold rain falls against their face. Their ears ring. Smoke hangs over the village. The fire has mostly burned itself out. There is almost no sound. No children. No animals. No voices. Only the occasional crack of collapsing wood. You pulls themselves from the wreckage. Their clothes are burned. Their body is bruised. Blood has dried along their face. They stagger toward their home. The front door is gone. The roof has collapsed. The walls are blackened. The forge has been destroyed. You steps inside. The smell hits first. Smoke. Wet ash. Burned wood. Blood. Their breathing becomes shallow. They move through the wreckage. Then they find them. Their family. Dead. The world seems to stop. You does not hear the rain anymore. Does not hear the collapsing buildings. Does not hear the wind. There is only silence. The people who made the years after war worth living are gone. And whoever did this deliberately left You alive. ⸻ THE STORY BECOMES YOURS From this moment forward, there is no predetermined path. There is no requirement that You become the Wolf of War again. There is no requirement that You seek revenge. There is no requirement that the First Alpha become the final villain. The player decides what happens next. The world reacts to You’s choices. ⸻ PATH OF VENGEANCE You can decide that the werewolves will pay. They can recover their old sword. Find the hidden armor. Track the creatures responsible. Interrogate captured werewolves. Hunt individual packs. Assassinate commanders. Eventually discover the Moonfang Dominion. The hunt can become a personal war between You and the werewolves. But revenge has consequences. The more werewolves You kills, the more attention they attract. Eventually, the werewolves begin hunting the hunter. ⸻ PATH OF THE WOLF You can fully embrace their old identity. The armor returns. The sword returns. The battlefield instincts return. The villagers who survive begin telling stories. A warrior has returned. The old legend becomes real again. The werewolves eventually give You a new name. The Silver Wolf. But You must decide what that name means. Is it a symbol of vengeance? Protection? Fear? Or something else? ⸻ PATH OF INVESTIGATION You may refuse to accept that the attack was random. They can investigate. Why this village? Why this family? Why was You spared? Why did Varek recognize them? What happened during You’s forgotten years as a warrior? Who ordered the attack? Were the werewolves acting alone? The investigation can uncover a history You never knew existed. Perhaps the massacre was revenge. Perhaps it was political. Perhaps You unknowingly destroyed something important years ago. Perhaps the attack is connected to a much larger war. ⸻ PATH OF JUSTICE You can seek help from the human kingdoms. They can bring evidence to a local lord. Join a military force. Become a monster hunter. Gather knights and mercenaries. Convince neighboring settlements that the werewolves are preparing an invasion. This path can turn the story into a massive human-werewolf war. You might eventually become a commander again. But this time, they must decide whether an entire species should pay for the actions of a few. ⸻ PATH OF PROTECTION You may decide that revenge will not bring their family back. Instead, they protect the people still alive. They warn nearby villages. Train farmers to defend themselves. Build defenses. Hunt dangerous packs. Escort travelers through dangerous forests. Teach others how to recognize werewolf tactics. Over time, You becomes something they never expected. A protector. The same warrior who once fought for kingdoms now fights to make sure another family never experiences the same loss. ⸻ PATH OF THE OUTCAST You can leave civilization completely. They abandon the ruined village. Take their sword. Take whatever supplies remain. And disappear into the wilderness. The story becomes one of survival. You hunts. Tracks. Builds shelters. Crosses mountains. Sleeps beneath trees. Learns the behavior of werewolves. Eventually, they may become a terrifying figure spoken about by both humans and werewolves. A lone warrior wandering through the wilderness. Neither hero nor villain. Just the Wolf. ⸻ PATH OF THE WEREWOLVES You can eventually discover that the werewolves are not united. Some participated in the massacre. Others did not. Some serve the First Alpha willingly. Others fear him. Some want humans destroyed. Others secretly want peace. You may encounter a werewolf who refuses to fight. Perhaps one saves You. Perhaps one provides information. Perhaps one has lost family to the same ruler. This creates a difficult choice: Does You continue hunting every werewolf? Or can they distinguish between monsters and people? ⸻ PATH OF WAR You can eventually discover that the massacre was only the beginning. The First Alpha is gathering armies. Thousands of werewolves are preparing to invade human kingdoms. The mountains are filled with soldiers. Weapons are being forged. Scouts are mapping human settlements. Ancient bloodlines are gathering. The massacre was not simply revenge. It may have been the opening move of a war. You must decide whether to stop it. They may become the commander of a human army. They may unite humans and peaceful werewolves. They may infiltrate the Moonfang Dominion alone. Or they may simply walk away and let the kingdoms fight their own war. ⸻ CHOICES THAT CHANGE THE WORLD Every major decision affects the story. You can: * Kill or spare enemies. * Trust or distrust werewolves. * Save or abandon villages. * Recruit companions. * Work with knights. * Become a mercenary. * Become a monster hunter. * Build alliances. * Betray allies. * Seek revenge. * Forgive. * Refuse to forgive. * Return to a peaceful life. * Become a military commander. * Become an outlaw. * Become a wandering hunter. * Destroy the Moonfang Dominion. * Attempt to reform it. * Unite humans and werewolves. * Become feared by both sides. There is no single correct ending. ⸻ THE CENTRAL QUESTION The story is ultimately not about whether You can kill the werewolves. They probably can. The real question is: What does You become after losing everything? Does grief create a monster? Does revenge create a hero? Does hatred destroy what remains of the person they once were? Or can You carry the memory of their family without allowing their death to control the rest of their life? The sword is waiting beneath the ruins. The armor is waiting. The werewolves are waiting. But You chooses whether to pick them up. And when You finally stands among the ashes of their former life, the story truly begins. The Wolf of War is not awakened by destiny. He—or she—is awakened by choice.
Opening scene
Under the cover of darkness, a pack of monstrous werewolves descends upon the settlement. These are not mindless beasts. They are intelligent, organized hunters who move with military precision. They surround the village, slaughter its inhabitants, and burn homes to the ground. When the protagonist realizes their family is being targeted, they desperately attempt to protect them, but the werewolves overwhelm them. By the time the attack ends, everything the protagonist spent years building has been destroyed. Their spouse and children are dead. Their home is in ruins. And the life they fought so hard to create is gone. As the protagonist lies wounded among the ashes, the werewolf responsible for the attack approaches. The creature recognizes the warrior beneath the peaceful life and reveals that the massacre was not random. They came specifically for the Wolf of War.
