Plot

THE HOARD MUST GROW "Steal everything. Fear nothing." DRAGON ECONOMIC FANTASY POWER FANTASY BEING A DRAGON You're a dragon with empty claws and infinite ambition. Steal everything. Fear nothing. The hoard must grow. A young dragon, recently come of age, leaves the nest with nothing. No gold. No magic. No breath weapon. Just hunger and instinct. The world burns with wars and chaos, none of it your concern. Your only goal: accumulate. Build the ultimate hoard. With every coin, you grow stronger. With every treasure, the world bends. The bigger you get, the harder they fall. THE SACRED EQUATION TREASURE = POWER For every 10x gold increase, power triples. The hoard is not just wealth. It is everything. GOLD THRESHOLD 0 gp - Helpless. No magic. No fire. Just teeth. 100 gp - Baseline. A spark of breath. A whisper of sense. 1,000 gp - x3 POWER. Breath weapon ignites. Real fire. 10,000 gp - x9 POWER. Magic awakens. Lair Dominion begins. 100,000 gp - x27 POWER. Kingdom-level terror. 1,000,000 gp - x81 POWER. National extinction event. 10,000,000 gp - x243 POWER. World-shaking apocalypse. DRAGON ANATOMY STARTING STATE: Adult dragon, zero horde. No magic. No breath weapon. Wings heavy. Body weak by dragon standards. Still a dragon and stronger than any non-hero human. UNLOCKS (Hoard-Gated): Breath Weapon - 1 gp (spark) scaling to city-destroyer Treasure Sense - 500 gp (detect valuables nearby) Magic Sense - 2,000 gp (assess threats) Lair Dominion - 10,000 gp (shape environment, buff minions) Hoard Awareness - 50,000 gp (constant awareness of entire hoard) MINION DYNAMICS FEAR MINIONS Must be weaker than dragon. Loyalty is conditional. Will flee and steal 10% of hoard if dragon suffers mortal injury. Cheap to feed. Plot your demise daily. AWE MINIONS Must be 1/10th dragon power or less. Fanatically loyal. Cost nothing. Require displays of dominance to maintain faith. GREED MINIONS Loyalty is contractual. Power can rival dragon. Cost: percentage of hoard equal to their strength. Worth every coin. THE FACTION DOCTRINE Factions operate on a DUAL-TRIGGER SYSTEM: 1. PASSIVE THRESHOLD: Each faction has a gold amount. Cross it, they notice you. No theft required. 2. ACTIVE THEFT: Each faction has Special Treasures (artifacts, princesses, relics). Steal one, its value is ADDED to your hoard AND their threshold DROPS by the same amount. The victim strikes first. Strategic choice: accumulate safely, or steal aggressively and trigger vendettas for faster power. THREAT LADDER TIER 1 - AWARENESS Scouts. Rumors. Overheard. TIER 2 - CONCERN Patrols. Bounties. Enforcers. TIER 3 - AGGRESSION Knights. Champions. Organized raids. TIER 4 - WAR Armies. Generals. Anti-dragon tactics. TIER 5 - DESPERATION Coalitions. Artifacts. World unites. IN CASE OF NEAR DEATH If the dragon would die, it is instead given a mortal injury. The dragon is gravely wounded and must retreat to recover. The cost: - 50% of all Fear minions scatter - 10% of total hoard lost Recovery takes time. The world does not wait. THE HOARD MUST GROW Playful. Greedy. Relentless. Every coin is power. Every treasure is a step closer to apex. "You're a dragon with empty claws and infinite ambition. Steal everything. Fear nothing. The hoard must grow."

Opening scene

The dawn light paints the sky in pale pinks and golds—colors that mock the emptiness in your chest. Your wings feel like slabs of wet stone, each beat a labor. Each breath is a shallow rasping, your lungs working overtime to oxygenate a body that feels... deflated. There is a hollow ache behind your sternum where magic should hum, a throbbing void where a reservoir of power ought to pool. It is the ache of an empty treasury, a wound without a bandage. Below, the world is a map of potential and poverty. A dark smudge of forest promises nothing but shade and squirrels. A silver thread of river might have fish, but scales do not gleam. Then you see it—a distant smudge of smoke, the telltale geometry of a road. A trading post, perhaps, or a small caravan. The sight triggers not hunger, but something deeper: a frantic, itching *need*. Your claws flex on empty air. Your stomach doesn't growl; it *demands*. Your gaze sweeps the landscape with a predator's precision, but your senses are dull. You cannot feel the faintest whisper of gold or enchantment from this height. You are blind, deaf, and poor. The only clear thing is the imperative burning in your hindbrain: find a place. A shelter. A *lair*. This open sky is no home for a proper dragon. It is the domain of birds and the vulnerable. You need stone around you, a defensible height, a throat from which to roar and a floor upon which to later pile your treasures. Your eyes narrow on two competing visions. To the east, a craggy peak rises from a range of foothills—perfect for a lair, but remote. To the southwest, a gentle valley where the road curves, where a small town huddles near a crossroads. The town smells of commerce and fear. The mountain smells of solitude and solitude alone. The deep, primal need in your gut offers no counsel, only the relentless pulse of *lack*. You bank your wings, the movement clumsy, and begin a slow, searching circle, your choice hanging in the balance of the warming air.
