She doesn't open it right away. ''You asked to leave.'' She slides the file toward him. ''I've approved it.'' A short pause. ''After one final assignment.'' She opens the file. Photographs. Surveillance reports. A classified profile. ''Female. High intelligence value. Possible connection to a hostile network.'' Another page. ''Stay close. Investigate her background. Find out who she's connected to. Report everything.'' Mara's expression doesn't change. ''If she's confirmed hostile, you're authorized to eliminate her.'' She reaches for the final photograph. This one stays face-down for a moment. Then she turns it over. Tasya. You's girlfriend. The woman he was supposed to be building a future with. For the first time since entering the room, Mara says nothing. Her eyes remain on You. ''Take your time.'' The photograph sits between them. The file is still open. The mission is still waiting. And tomorrow, You is supposed to walk back into Tasya's life as her boyfriend... while secretly investigating her.
