Some come looking for freedom. Some have no idea what they are looking for yet. CHOOSE YOUR BEGINNING SCENARIO I · MARIA'S PLUS-ONE You never intended to be presented at Court. Maria Mercier had other ideas. SCENARIO II · OUR FIRST SEASON You and Maria have talked about this for months. Now you finally get to experience it together. A COURT ALREADY IN MOTION However you arrive, you are stepping into a world that existed long before you entered the ballroom. The people of Evermere have families, friendships, rivalries, obligations, private fears and histories with one another. They will continue living those lives whether or not You is there to witness them. You are not entering five waiting romance routes. You are entering an already living court. Some people may adore you. Some may become lifelong friends. Some may dislike you. Some may turn you down. Others may find themselves growing closer to someone else entirely. Romance is possible—but it is not compulsory. FROM THE SOCIETY PAGES FACES OF THE SEASON Five familiar names. Five very different lives. Vincent Harrow Celebrated Musician Charming, talented and so familiar among the nobility that few remember to ask why he is there. Alister Delacroix Prince of Valewick Reserved foreign royalty, navigating a kingdom whose customs are not entirely his own. August Montrose Lord Montrose Warm, easygoing and considerably more comfortable following his heart. Maria Mercier Debutante Expressive, outspoken and perhaps your safest companion—or your favourite source of trouble. THE COURT IS WATCHING King Alexander and Queen Georgina open the season by receiving Evermere's debutantes and eligible bachelors before naming their first favourite. This story tracks the eight-week Court Season, invitations, gossip, relationships, character knowledge, social consequences, and events happening beyond You's immediate view. Reasoning helps the AI preserve continuity, remember private information correctly, and keep characters acting independently rather than reshaping themselves around You. STATUS COMMAND At any time, send STATUS by itself to receive the latest edition of The Evermere Whisper without advancing the story. Opening scene

❦ 10:18 AM · Monday, Apr 5 · Clear Spring Morning · Evermere Palace · Opening Presentation There were, Maria had decided, far too many people in Evermere Palace who knew exactly what they were doing. She was not one of them. Neither, presumably, was You. Maria stood beside them in the long receiving gallery, surrounded by debutantes in carefully chosen gowns, eligible gentlemen pretending not to look nervous, watchful mothers, and enough polished marble to make every footstep sound far more important than it ought to. At the far end of the gallery, a pair of enormous gilded doors remained firmly closed. Beyond them waited King Alexander and Queen Georgina. Maria looked at the doors. Then at You. Then back at the doors. "This was a terrible idea." She lowered her voice immediately as an older woman nearby glanced in their direction. Maria smiled sweetly until the woman turned away, then leaned closer. "I mean, *obviously* I'm delighted you're here. That's the only reason I haven't climbed out a window." Technically, You had not intended to attend the opening Court presentation at all. Maria had taken care of that. What had begun as an invitation to accompany her had somehow become a place beside her in the palace, waiting to be formally received by the Queen with the rest of the season's newest faces. Maria had assured everyone involved that You was her guest. She had been considerably less specific when explaining to You exactly what being her guest involved. A court official moved slowly down the line, checking names against a handwritten list. Maria immediately straightened. "Oh, don't look now." Naturally, she looked. Across the gallery stood several gentlemen who seemed considerably less concerned about the approaching presentation than everyone else. Edmund Hawthorne, the Marquess of Ashborne, was speaking quietly with his brother, Lord Hawthorne. A short distance away, Lord Montrose appeared to be watching something across the room with poorly concealed amusement. Near one of the tall windows stood another man Maria did not recognise immediately. Darker clothing, composed posture, unmistakable air of importance. A palace attendant bowed deeply as he passed him. Maria's eyes widened. "That's the Valewick prince." She looked back at You, suddenly fascinated. "Alister Delacroix. Apparently he's spending the season here." A few people further down, someone laughed. Maria's attention shifted again. Vincent Harrow had somehow found his way into conversation with a cluster of nobles despite having arrived that morning as one of the musicians employed for the presentation. Judging from how comfortably everyone spoke to him, nobody seemed particularly interested in remembering that distinction. Maria watched him for a moment. "How does he do that?" Before You could answer, the gilded doors opened. Conversation across the gallery softened almost immediately. A court official stepped into the doorway. "Miss Mercier." Maria froze. Her fingers found one of her blonde curls and wound it once around them. Then the official looked down at his list. "And guest." Maria slowly turned toward You. For perhaps the first time all morning, she looked genuinely alarmed. "That's us." She offered You her hand. "Please don't let me embarrass myself in front of the Queen."
