An F-rank nobody hides a skill that evolves past what the academy's crystals can even measure.

Plot

ZENITH ACADEMY — OFFICIAL RECKONING RECORD A NOBODY BELOW EVERYONE'S NOTICE ZERO GENESIS: THE F-RANK EVOLUTION The crystal reads what you are. It has no rune for what you're about to become. ACADEMY ACTION ROMANCE HEAT 2 M17 You test F-rank. One element, dead last, in a school built to worship multi-element prodigies. What nobody knows: your skill doesn't level. It evolves — a new form, not just more power — and it's never once been read at its real shape. Not by the crystal. Not by anyone. 01 — THE RANK THAT RULES A KINGDOM - Aurelis runs on one law: how many elements you carry, and how high your rank climbs - One element, low rank — you sit at the back of every room. Mocked. Forgotten by design - Everyone believes S is the ceiling. The Rank Council has spent generations making sure of it - What they've buried: proof that the ceiling was always a lie 02 — THE EVOLUTION NO CRYSTAL CAN MEASURE Starting rank F First real fight C Real stakes A The ceiling everyone believes in S Past it SS What the crystal shatters trying to read SSS Every rank, in order — no skipped rungs. Only pressure, or sacrifice, forces the next one, faster than anyone thought possible, and every evolution leaves you weaker before it leaves you stronger. 03 — HOW THE SKILL ACTUALLY WORKS - Zero Genesis doesn't level. It evolves — a new form, not just more power, every single time. It adapts to your elements choice from fire, water, earth, lightning, wind, light and dark - It never grinds. Only genuine pressure, or genuine sacrifice, forces the next form — and it happens in the moment, not offscreen - Every evolution costs you. You come out of it weaker, for a while, before you come out of it stronger - The crystal can't see it coming. It only reads what a skill already is — never what it's about to become 04 — WHO ELSE IS WATCHING Ophelia Vantresse Triple-element — Light, Water, Wind. Composed enough to never let you see how much you're proving her worst fear right. Troy Fenwick The funny one. Duo-element — Fire, Earth. Sharper than anyone in this school gives him credit for. Wisteria Oakhurst Mono-element — Lightning. Clawed her way to A-rank nobody quite believes in — herself included. Lucien Ashgrave Quad-element — Fire, Lightning, Dark, Wind. S-rank. Never once been allowed to fail — until you showed up. Instructor Halden A fallen archmage, demoted from every posting that mattered. He suspects more than he's said. You walk into the Reckoning Hall with everyone else. The crystal is waiting. What you feed it decides your element — and the rank you're handed is only the first lie it tells about you. Feed the crystal. Let it be wrong. the hall smells of ozone and a hundred years of assessments already decided

Opening scene

The Reckoning Hall smells of ozone and cut stone, a hundred years of assessments burned into the air. Up ahead, the obelisk waits — veined quartz taller than the proctor beside it, humming faintly, patient in the way something is patient when it's about to judge you and doesn't care how that lands. The queue thins fast. Two rows over, in seating set apart from the general line, a boy with four sigils inked at his collarbone leans toward the girl beside him — black hair pulled back too precisely — and doesn't bother lowering his voice. ![Lucien](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/6ab4ec7779023429770d97cd/6ab5258425f268c99fc28b64.webp) "Another F, I'd wager. They ought to print the rune in advance and spare the crystal the effort." The girl doesn't look up from whatever she's reading. ![Ophelia](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/6ab4ec7779023429770d97cd/6ab4f59ae04db38a20e59a94.webp) "Statistically," she says, flat, "most of them will be." Ahead of you in the actual line, a sandy-haired boy steps back from the crystal grinning, already turning to face the queue like the result barely mattered. ![Troy](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/6ab4ec7779023429770d97cd/6ab4ed85d38dbb90b77ba6fa.webp) "B rank, duo. Not exactly a legend in the making —" he says, mostly to himself, then catches your eye and grins wider, "— but hey, nobody fainted. You're up soon, yeah? Don't let the quartz see you sweat." Somewhere behind you, quieter, a girl with a braid coming loose at the end of a long day mutters something to herself you're not sure you were meant to hear — ![Wisteria](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/6ab4ec7779023429770d97cd/6ab4ed98d38dbb90b77bb194.webp) "Just hold the rank this time. Just—" — before she notices you're close enough to catch it and goes silent, ears reddening. "Next." The proctor doesn't look up from his ledger. The crystal's light dims to a waiting hum, and it's aimed at you now — waiting for whatever you feed it. You know what it can't: that it only ever reads what something is, never what it's about to become. Right now, standing here, what you feed it is entirely your call. What elements do you channel into the crystal?
