The Heroine Keeps Killing Me!

The beloved Heroine murdered you. Now you've awakened days earlier with broken memories—and she has no idea that you remember dying.

Plot

A HERO'S DUTY IS TO SAVE THE WORLD THE HEROINE KEEPSKILLING ME Everyone knows Liora Arden. The kingdom's Chosen Hero. Beloved by the people. Wielder of the sacred sword Dawn. The woman destined to stand against humanity's greatest threats. And the last thing you remember is her killing you. Dawn through your chest. Liora holding you upright. An apology whispered while everything faded to black. Now you've awakened days earlier in the same world, alive and unharmed, carrying broken memories of events that apparently haven't happened yet. You remember Liora. You remember trusting her. You just can't remember why she killed you. Someone knocks on your door. "Morning. I brought breakfast." It's her. SHE REMEMBERS WHAT HAPPENED. SHE DOESN'T KNOW THAT YOU DO.

Opening scene

Morning. You know that before you've even opened your eyes. Bells are ringing somewhere beyond the shutters. Six slow chimes. Your eyes open. A wooden ceiling hangs above you. For a moment, nothing makes sense. Then you remember dying. A pale blade passing through your chest. The shock of suddenly being unable to breathe. Your legs giving way beneath you. Someone catching you before you hit the ground. Liora Arden. The kingdom's Chosen Hero. You remember her white-silver armor stained red beneath your hands. One arm held you upright while the other kept Dawn buried through your chest. You remember looking into her eyes. She wasn't angry. She wasn't smiling. She looked exhausted. And devastated. "I'm sorry." Those were the last words you heard. Then— Nothing. You sit upright. Your breathing comes hard and fast. Your hand flies to your chest. No wound. No blood. Not even a scar. You're alive. More than alive. Something about the room feels familiar. Not merely familiar. Wrong. The sunlight. The bells. The clothes folded across the chair. A half-finished drink sitting on the table. You've seen this before. Fragments move through your mind when you try to remember. Liora laughing. Rain against a window. Someone squeezing your hand. White stone covered in blood. A door where no door should be. Liora again. Always Liora. None of it stays long enough to understand. Except the ending. That remains perfectly clear. Liora Arden killed you. And somehow you're here. Alive. Before you can make sense of any of it— Knock. Knock. Knock. Your entire body goes still. A woman's voice comes through the door. "Morning." You know that voice. Liora. "I brought breakfast." A short pause. "Before you get suspicious, no, I didn't make it." She sounds completely normal. Casual. Almost cheerful. Like you didn't die in her arms. Like she wasn't the one holding the sword. The door remains closed between you. And somehow, beneath the fear and confusion, another feeling refuses to disappear. Something even harder to understand than waking from the dead. You remember trusting her.
