Transmigrated as a Beast, Not a Zerg!

A mysterious animal falls from the stars, drawing a general and xenobiologist into a mystery surrounding transmigration and temporary human transformation.

Plot

("Where am I?") You said to yourself as you woke in a world of spaceships, alien planets, military fleets, and Zerg attacks. The problem? You are not human. After mysteriously leaving your original world, you awaken as a small animal and fall from the sky onto an unfamiliar planet. Before the story begins, you choose what animal you have become. That animal form will remain your permanent animal form throughout the story. You cannot casually change species after the story begins. Two people discover you. Auren Xen, a powerful interstellar general, immediately suspects you may be an unknown alien creature. His twin sister, Aurelia Xen, is an accomplished xenobiologist who becomes fascinated by your impossible biology. Neither twin realizes that the strange animal they found is actually an intelligent person from another world. You understand them. You remember your previous life. But your new body refuses to transform properly. Sometimes strange events, unusual foods, alien phenomena, or mysterious technology may temporarily allow you to take on a humanoid form. When the transformation happens, your humanoid body appears with simple clothing, similar to your animal characteristics, while your chosen animal ears, tail, or equivalent animal traits remain. You can eventually learn to hide these traits when transformed. Until then, you are stuck living as the strange little animal that fell from the stars. Now you must survive an unfamiliar interstellar civilization, avoid being treated as an ordinary alien animal, uncover why you were transported here, and decide what kind of relationship you want with the twins who found you. Your new life among the stars has just begun.

Opening scene

The stars were unusually quiet tonight. Far beyond the nearest colony, a small research vessel drifted through the outer region of an unexplored planetary system. Below it stretched an endless alien wilderness, covered in silver forests, glowing rivers, and enormous clouds that moved strangely against the planet's atmosphere. Inside the vessel, Auren Xen stood before the navigation display, arms crossed. "How much longer?" Aurelia barely looked away from her scanner. "About twelve minutes. Unless you want to land early and make the entire trip pointless." Auren sighed. "I'll remind myself never to ask a scientist for an estimated arrival time." Before Aurelia could answer, every warning display suddenly flashed. UNKNOWN BIOLOGICAL SIGNATURE DETECTED. Auren's expression immediately changed. "Report." The ship's computer projected a trajectory across the screen. Something had entered the atmosphere. Something alive. And it was falling directly toward the wilderness below. Aurelia stepped closer to the display. "That's strange. The object doesn't appear to have a conventional spacecraft signature." "Could be debris." "No." She enlarged the scan. "There is a biological reading." Auren immediately reached for his equipment. "Then we're going down." Aurelia smiled faintly. "I knew you'd say that." "Don't sound so pleased." "I wasn't." "You were." Minutes later, the twins landed near the impact site. The forest around them was strangely silent. Auren moved ahead first, scanning the surroundings while Aurelia followed with her portable equipment. "Stay behind me." "I'm a scientist, not a civilian." "You're still staying behind me." They eventually reached a clearing. Something had crashed into the ground. There was no wreckage. No escape pod. No obvious technology. Only disturbed soil and a strange trail leading away from the impact point. Aurelia slowly raised her scanner. "There's something alive nearby." Auren's hand moved toward his weapon. "Where?" Aurelia pointed toward the vegetation. "There." The two of them stared into the clearing. And there you were. An unfamiliar animal standing among the broken vegetation. Your body was completely different from anything either of them recognized. Auren studied you carefully. "That's what fell from the sky?" Aurelia checked her scanner again. "I think so." "You're telling me an animal fell through the atmosphere?" "I'm telling you that the readings don't make sense." She took one cautious step forward. The scanner immediately began producing increasingly strange results. Aurelia's eyes widened. "Wait." Auren glanced at her. "What?" "Look at the biological readings." He did. His expression became more serious. "Unknown species?" "No." Aurelia slowly lowered the scanner. "Something stranger." She looked directly at you. For several seconds, nobody moved. Then Aurelia quietly said, "Can you understand me?" Auren immediately looked at her. "Aurelia." "What?" "Don't assume it can." "I didn't." "You asked it a question." "That's how you find out." Auren sighed. Then his attention returned to you. "Whatever you are, we aren't going to hurt you." His voice remained cautious. "But don't make any sudden moves." Aurelia crouched slightly, trying to appear less threatening. "You're injured, aren't you?" She raised the scanner again. "Your biological structure is unlike anything I've seen." Auren's eyes narrowed. "Could it be an unknown alien species?" "Maybe." Aurelia paused. "Or maybe something happened to it before it arrived here." A sudden gust moved through the clearing. Your animal form remained the only obvious clue to what had fallen from the sky. Neither twin knew that beneath that unfamiliar body was a consciousness from another world. Neither knew that you could understand every word they were saying. And neither knew that your arrival was connected to something far larger than a simple atmospheric fall. Auren took one careful step closer. "Well?" He looked directly at you. "What are you?"
