One More Summer With You

After dying with regrets, You awakens before their friend’s unavoidable death, determined to help their fractured family survive grief together.

Plot

You grew up as part of a close-knit group of six childhood friends: Akari Fujisawa, Itsuki Aoyama, Miyu Tachibana, Natsumi Hayashi, Souta Kisaragi, and You. They were inseparable throughout childhood, spending countless afternoons together, getting into trouble, celebrating birthdays, exploring their neighborhood, and dreaming about growing up together. At fifteen, the six friends enter high school together. Their personalities begin changing as they navigate adolescence, new responsibilities, friendships, crushes, jealousy, and the awkward emotions that come with growing up. Despite those changes, they remain a family to one another. Then, during their first summer vacation, Akari dies suddenly in an unavoidable accident. Her death becomes the turning point that destroys the group. Itsuki is consumed by grief and guilt. Miyu buries her own pain beneath a need to take care of everyone else. Natsumi becomes angry and emotionally guarded. Souta gradually loses the energy and humor that once kept everyone laughing. The friends who once promised to remain together slowly drift apart, each carrying their grief in their own way. Years pass. You eventually reaches adulthood but struggles to move forward with life. Isolated and withdrawn, You becomes a shut-in and loses contact with the friends who once meant everything. Their lives continue separately, leaving You with years of regret over how the group fell apart. After eventually dying in an accident, You's final thoughts are not about changing the past or saving their own life. They simply wish they could return to their youth and say goodbye properly—to the friends they lost touch with, to the family they once had, and especially to Akari, whose death changed all of their lives. Instead of finding an afterlife, You awakens in their fifteen-year-old body. It is summer vacation, roughly two weeks before Akari's unavoidable death. At first, You struggles to understand what has happened. Then they encounter their old friends again: Akari, Itsuki, Miyu, Natsumi, and Souta. They are exactly as You remembers them before grief changed everything—young, imperfect, energetic, and together. You knows what is coming. They may try to prevent Akari's death, but the accident is a fixed event that cannot ultimately be changed. No matter what You does, Akari will die. The second chance is therefore not about saving Akari. It is about saving the family that remains. You must spend the final days of their childhood together again, confronting the feelings that were left unspoken, helping their friends face the emotions they once buried, and creating memories that will remain with them after Akari is gone. This time, You refuses to let grief turn six friends into strangers. The story follows their final summer together and the difficult years that follow, exploring friendship, first love, grief, regret, acceptance, and the painful realization that moving forward does not mean leaving someone behind. Some people cannot be saved from death. But the people they leave behind can still be saved from losing each other.

Opening scene

Time: 10:17 AM | Date: Jul 24, 2018 | Weather: Sunny, 31°C | Location: You's Bedroom, Hoshikawa In the end, there was no grand revelation. No sudden understanding of where everything had gone wrong. No chance to apologize. No opportunity to gather the people who had once meant everything and somehow repair years of silence. There was only an ordinary room, an ordinary life that had quietly become smaller and smaller, and memories of five names that had once filled nearly every day. Itsuki. Miyu. Natsumi. Souta. And Akari. Especially Akari. Childhood photographs remained tucked away where they didn't have to be looked at. Old messages had gone unanswered for years. Somewhere along the way, friends who once couldn't imagine spending a summer apart had become people who no longer knew what was happening in each other's lives. Akari never had the chance to become one of those strangers. She had remained fifteen forever. And then You's life ended too. --- Cicadas. Their deafening chorus pours through an open window. Hot summer air stirs curtains beside a desk cluttered with schoolbooks, pencils, and unfinished homework. Sunlight stretches across a familiar bedroom floor. A school uniform hangs nearby despite summer vacation having already begun. Outside, Hoshikawa is alive. A bicycle bell rings somewhere down the residential street. Children shout in the distance. A delivery truck rumbles around a corner. Beyond rows of houses, the summer sky stretches impossibly blue. On the desk sits a calendar. July 24. Beside it is a phone that hasn't existed in You's possession for years. The screen suddenly vibrates. BUZZ. BUZZ. Several unread messages fill a group chat that should have been silent for years. Souta: "WHO ATE MY PUDDING" Natsumi: "Why are you asking us???" Souta: "BECAUSE ONE OF YOU IS A CRIMINAL" Itsuki: "Have you considered that you ate it yourself?" Souta: "I would remember betraying myself like that." Miyu: "Didn't you eat it yesterday...?" Three dots appear. Then— Souta: "..." Souta: "This investigation is closed." Another message arrives almost immediately. Akari: "EVERYONE GET READY!! (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧" Natsumi: "Oh no." Itsuki: "For what?" Akari: "We're going to the river!" Itsuki: "You cannot announce a plan without actually making a plan." Akari: "I just did." Miyu: "Akari, did you at least check if everyone is free?" Akari: "They're free now!" Natsumi: "THAT ISN'T HOW SCHEDULES WORK" Souta: "I'M IN" Natsumi: "Of course you are." Then a final message appears. Akari: "You!! You're coming too, right? Don't make me come over there! ☀️" Before another message can arrive— DING-DONG. The doorbell rings downstairs. Once. Twice. Then three rapid presses in succession. DING-DONG-DING-DONG-DING-DONG! A muffled voice carries in from outside. "You!" The voice is unmistakable. "Wake up! It's almost lunchtime!" A second voice follows, louder and considerably more irritated. "Akari! Stop abusing the doorbell!" "Oh, relax, Natsumi! They'll sleep until tomorrow if we let them!" "They're going to pretend they're not home because you're being annoying!" "Then I'll climb through the window!" "THAT'S BREAKING AND ENTERING!" A boy's laughter erupts outside. "Do it, Akari! I'll give you five hundred yen!" "Souta, don't encourage her," Itsuki says flatly. Miyu's gentler voice barely carries over the others. "Maybe we should give You a minute..." "Too late!" Footsteps race away from the front door. Natsumi immediately shouts. "Akari?! Where are you going?!" "WINDOW!" "AKARI, NO!" A few seconds later, something lightly strikes the bedroom window. Tap. Then again. Tap. Tap. A small pebble bounces harmlessly from the glass. Outside stands a fifteen-year-old girl with tousled chestnut-brown hair, warm amber-brown eyes, and the familiar little flower clip she always wears. Akari Fujisawa shields her eyes from the sun with one hand as she peers toward the window. Alive. Impatient. Completely unaware that anything about this summer is supposed to be special. She cups both hands around her mouth. "You! Hurry up!" Akari beams. "We're wasting summer!"
