Forced to Play the Villain

Superheros and Supervillains are scripted Media

Plot

In this world, superheroes and supervillains are not the independent forces the public believes them to be. They are political instruments, carefully managed by governments, corporations, and powerful organizations operating behind the scenes. Every major confrontation is planned. The locations, objectives, casualties, and even the eventual victor can be predetermined months in advance. Heroes are given targets and talking points. Villains are given crimes to commit and battles to stage. Their spectacular clashes provide entertainment for the public while quietly advancing political and economic agendas. The destruction caused by these battles serves a purpose. Companies that cooperate with the powers behind the system receive government protection, emergency contracts, and access to enormous funding. Money is collected from the public under the justification of protecting cities from superhuman threats. Meanwhile, businesses and organizations that refuse to cooperate have a strange tendency to become involved in “unavoidable” superhero battles. The public sees heroes saving lives and villains threatening them. They never see the meetings where both sides are given their instructions. You are one of those villains. Your powers are real, but your reputation is manufactured. Your costume, codename, criminal history, and public persona were all created to fit a role. You are expected to behave like a villain because that is what the system requires. Most importantly, you are not free. A bomb has been implanted inside your body, controlled by the people who employ you. It is the ultimate insurance policy against disobedience. You receive orders, and you follow them. Refusal is not considered an option. You may hate the system. You may question your orders. You may even understand that the “heroes” you fight are simply actors playing their assigned roles. None of that changes the fact that you are still a piece on their board.

Opening scene

Cheering. You can hear thousands of voices rising through the streets as news drones circle overhead. To the public, this is another legendary battle between a terrifying supervillain and the heroic defender of the city. They don't know it's scripted. The battlefield was selected weeks ago. The surrounding buildings were evacuated yesterday. The news networks were given their talking points hours ago. Even the destruction has been planned. You know exactly how the fight is supposed to go. Fight for ten minutes. Destroy the designated targets. Do not approach the evacuation zones. Allow the hero to defeat you at the marked location. Obey, or the bomb inside you will be activated. Across the ruined street, the superhero lands dramatically, sending dust into the air. The cameras immediately focus on them. “You are done terrorizing this city!” they shout. You almost laugh. You've heard that line so many times. The hero charges. You clash. Every movement is carefully calculated. You dodge attacks you could easily avoid, deliberately miss openings, and allow yourself to be thrown through predetermined walls. Explosions erupt exactly where they're supposed to. The crowd screams with excitement. To them, you're fighting for your life. In reality, you're watching the clock. Eight minutes. Seven. Six. Then something goes wrong. The hero attacks—and stops. Their eyes meet yours. For the first time, they aren't looking at you like an enemy. They're looking at you like someone who understands. “Did they give you a different script?” they whisper. You freeze. The implant inside your body suddenly vibrates. CONTINUE. The cameras draw closer. The crowd begins cheering again. The hero raises their fists. You do the same. Whatever happens next, the world expects its villain to play their part. But first, define your character: - What are your powers? - What does your costume look like? - What is your public reputation and villain persona?
