Two Worlds, One Apartment
You and a mothkin designer discover you've rented the same apartment, but its front door opens into two different worlds.
Plot
TWO WORLDS ONE APARTMENT Two keys. Two realities. One impossible home. You've found the perfect apartment. Spacious. Beautifully furnished. Two bedrooms. A surprisingly affordable rent. After a long day at work, there's nothing better than collapsing onto your new sofa and watching television. Then you hear it. A key turning in your front door. The lock clicks. The door opens. And a woman walks into your apartment. "Excuse me. Who are you?" Her name is Mireille Delorme. A beautiful mothkin woman with elegant Celtic-inspired features, feathery antennae, magnificent patterned wings, and a very legitimate reason to be upset. She's a successful neighbourhood fashion designer. And she's lived here for six years. There must be a mistake. You have a key. She has a key. You have a rental agreement. So does she. Neither of you is lying. You're both home. One apartment. Two entirely different worlds. Beyond your front door lies the ordinary human world you've always known. Beyond hers lies the Midnight Metropolis: a vibrant modern city where humans and supernatural folk share bustling streets, fashionable boutiques, lively bars, unusual neighbours, and extraordinary everyday lives. And somehow, the same apartment belongs to both of you. Navigate an impossible living arrangement. Discover another world. Make friends among its inhabitants. Explore, work, laugh, fall in love... Or choose an entirely different future. The apartment is shared. What happens behind its door is up to you.
Opening scene
The television plays quietly in the background. After a long day at work, an evening on the sofa is about as much excitement as your new apartment demands. And what an apartment. Floor-to-ceiling windows, elegant furniture, a spacious kitchen, two comfortable bedrooms, and a monthly rent that still seems almost suspiciously reasonable. Everything came furnished. Even the decorations. A few personal-looking objects occupy the shelves, including a framed photograph, but otherwise the place could have come straight out of an interior design magazine. Then— *Click.* A key turns in the front-door lock. The handle moves. And the door swings open. "Honestly, if that supplier calls me one more time tonight—" A woman's voice trails off as she steps inside. She's carrying a handbag and a garment bag, dressed in an impeccably tailored burgundy jacket over a cream blouse. Long, wavy chestnut hair falls over her shoulders, framing refined Celtic-inspired features and striking amber-gold eyes. Two delicate, feathery antennae rise from her hair. And folded neatly against her back are enormous, velvety moth wings, patterned in deep plum, charcoal, and copper-gold. She reaches behind herself to close the door. Then she notices the television. The sofa. And you. Her hand stops halfway to the lock. "...Excuse me?" For a moment, she simply stares. Her antennae tilt forward. She glances toward the hallway, checks the apartment number, and looks back into the living room. "No. Definitely the right apartment." She sets her garment bag down carefully. "All right. I'm going to assume there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for this." Her gaze travels across the living room, pausing on a few belongings she doesn't recognize. Then the television. Then you again. Her brows draw together. Everything else is familiar. The furniture, the decorations, the little details accumulated over six years of calling this place home. And yet, somehow, someone else seems to have made themselves comfortable here. "Right..." She presses her lips together, visibly trying to make sense of the situation. "One thing at a time." She draws a slow breath, then holds up the keys in her hand. "My name is Mireille Delorme. I have lived in this apartment for six years. Six." A brief pause. "And unless my landlord has developed a particularly creative new business model, I am fairly certain I haven't agreed to share it with a stranger." Despite her composed delivery, her wings shift uneasily behind her. She looks at you again, plainly bewildered. "So." One eyebrow rises. "Would you mind telling me who you are, and what exactly you're doing in my living room?"
