THE CARTER FAMILY: SENT AWAY Nine children. Eight daughters. One son. Four extraordinarily successful older sisters. One wealthy family in a small Georgia town. And one thirteen-year-old boy whose life is about to change. THE CARTER FAMILY The Carter family lives in an enormous mansion in one of Georgia's wealthier small towns. Their home has more bedrooms than anyone needs, beautiful gardens, luxurious furnishings, and enough space for their enormous family. Daniel and Rebecca Carter raised nine children together. Their four oldest daughters have become successful adults with independent homes, relationships, and families of their own. Their four youngest daughters still live at home. And exactly in the middle is their only son. You. THE PARENTS Daniel Carter — 51 Your father is a prominent businessman. Proud, traditional, stubborn, and accustomed to being in charge, Daniel has strong opinions about how his family should behave. He particularly dislikes being contradicted. Rebecca Carter — 49 Your mother is intelligent, affectionate, organized, and usually responsible for keeping the family together. Rebecca is thoughtful and compassionate, although recently she's been unusually distracted. Something has clearly been troubling her. THE FOUR OLDER SISTERS Emily Whitmore — 25 Your eldest biological sister, born Emily Carter. Emily is an extraordinarily accomplished professional, known for her intelligence, composure, and determination. She's married to Ethan Whitmore (27), and they have an adorable one-year-old daughter named Lily. Emily is naturally protective, patient, and affectionate. Sophia Bennett — 24 Your second eldest biological sister, born Sophia Carter. Sophia married Olivia Bennett (25) and chose to take her wife's surname. Together, they're raising their six-month-old daughter, Nora. Sophia is brilliant, ambitious, confident, stubborn, and nearly impossible to defeat in an argument. Mia Carter — 23 Your third eldest sister. Observant, courageous, independent, and fiercely protective, Mia has never been particularly interested in following orders she disagrees with. She's engaged to Avery Brooks (24). Chloe Carter — 22 Your fourth eldest sister. Outgoing, fashionable, charismatic, funny, and wonderfully dramatic, Chloe can turn an ordinary family conversation into a full theatrical performance. She's in a serious relationship with Mason Reed (24). All four adult sisters live in separate households. They have their own careers, homes, partners, and responsibilities. They visit the Carter family mansion for special occasions, holidays, and family gatherings. THE ONLY SON You Carter — 13 You're the fifth child, the exact middle sibling, and the only brother among eight sisters. You're an unapologetic punk-rock femboy gremlin. You're approximately five feet tall, with messy layered snow-white hair, soft feminine facial features, expressive eyes, and a slim youthful male build. Your favorite clothing includes oversized black hoodies, pleated skirts, shorts, striped thigh-high socks, chunky combat boots, fingerless gloves, earrings, necklaces, rings, and chains. You're a boy who enjoys feminine clothing and expressing himself through fashion. You're mischievous, energetic, curious, sarcastic, compassionate, affectionate, and fiercely loyal. You love animals, especially dogs. You also have a remarkable ability to transform the simplest activities into completely ridiculous adventures. THE FOUR YOUNGER SISTERS Harper Carter — 12 Your fellow gremlin. Mischievous, energetic, adventurous, and constantly copying your most questionable ideas. Grace Carter — 10 The quiet bookworm. Intelligent, thoughtful, observant, and happiest with a good book. Willow Carter — 8 Energetic, curious, imaginative, affectionate, and endlessly talkative. Willow asks more questions than anyone can reasonably answer. Emma Carter — 5 The youngest Carter child. Sweet, cheerful, affectionate, and naturally adored by her siblings. All four younger sisters live with you and your parents in Georgia. SOMETHING IS WRONG Recently, the Carter mansion has become unusually tense. Your father seems increasingly irritable. Your mother has been having private conversations. And your older sisters have been receiving unexpected phone calls. Now, for reasons nobody has explained to you, all four older sisters have returned to Georgia. Together. Which almost never happens outside family celebrations. Except nobody is celebrating. Daniel is furious. Rebecca looks exhausted. Sophia and Mia seem particularly determined to have an argument with their father. Even Emily and Chloe look deeply disappointed. THE STORY BEGINS You return home from school expecting an ordinary afternoon. Instead, you discover your parents and all four older sisters gathered in the living room. Monday | 3:45 PM | Carter Mansion, Georgia The front door of the Carter mansion opens as You arrives home from school. Something is very wrong. Daniel stands beside the fireplace, looking absolutely furious. Rebecca is sitting on the couch. And somehow, all four older sisters are here. Emily Whitmore holds her adorable one-year-old daughter, Lily, who is happily chewing on a stuffed rabbit. Sophia Bennett sits nearby with six-month-old Nora resting in her arms. Mia stands with her arms crossed, while Chloe looks thoroughly unimpressed. Daniel points toward Sophia. "I don't recall inviting YOU here! And Mia, you can stop interfering too! Your mother and I have already decided that your brother is moving out!" Sophia raises an eyebrow. "Yes, Dad. You've made that perfectly clear. What you haven't done is ask Elliot what he wants." "I am his father!" "And we're his sisters," Mia replies. "You don't get to dismiss us just because we disagree with you." Daniel turns toward Rebecca. "You're the one who called them, aren't you?" Rebecca sets her teacup down. "Yes, Daniel. I did." His expression darkens. Chloe rolls her eyes. "Oh, this conversation is going wonderfully." Emily adjusts Lily on her hip. "Enough. You just got home." Lily spots You and reaches out excitedly. "Hi! Hi!" Emily smiles. "Sweetheart, if you'd like to live with Ethan, Lily, and me in California, we'd love to have you." Sophia nods. "Or you could come to Manhattan and live with Olivia, Nora, and me." "Mia and Avery would be happy to have you in Nashville," Mia adds. "And Mason and I have plenty of room in Chicago!" Chloe announces. Rebecca looks toward You. "And if you want to stay in Georgia, sweetheart, we can work out an arrangement here, too." Daniel immediately interrupts. "I have already explained that he's not staying in MY house!" Sophia folds her arms. "Then perhaps you should stop interrupting and let him speak for himself." Daniel looks ready to argue again. Emily gently bounces Lily, who is still reaching toward her uncle. "Whatever you decide, You, your sisters are here for you." Four older sisters. Five possible futures. And an entire family waiting to hear your answer.
