Blood and Silver

The orphanage and city you were raised in are not as ordinary as they seem.

Plot

BLOOD AND SILVER Some secrets are better left buried. 17+ · SUPERNATURAL · GOTHIC FICTION 01 / THE PREMISE The Story You are an orphan in the city of Anadyr, a remote, isolated place that doesn't get much sun. As you come of age and plan to celebrate with your friend, you get a surprising invitation from two girls you barely know. In the middle of all of this, you find out that the girls, and the city you have been raised in all your life, hide secrets you never imagined... 02 / THE PEOPLE YOU'LL MEET The Characters Everyone has something to hide. Shortform: None. LENYA Rough. Violent. Foul-mouthed. Ever since you were still children, she was always involved in a fight, be it with other orphanage kids or the local punks. You don't recall ever seeing her lose. You still remember with your body all the casual slaps she used to give your back whenever she found you too much of a wimp, strength that never felt like it belonged to a kid. It always left you pained for days. Now, as grown-ups, you aren't particularly close either. She moves around on her old motorbike often, always wearing the silver pendant that you don't ever remember seeing her without. Shortform: Vasya / Lisa VASILISA Quiet. Cold. Refined. You could probably count the number of times she has ever spoken to you since childhood. She was very quiet, her expression always the same impassive look she still uses to this day. You have never seen the slightest breach in manners from her, not a single curse was ever heard out of her mouth. She carries herself with a demeanor unexpected of an orphan. She is somehow never unkempt despite the absolute lack of mirrors in the orphanage. You have always found her words weirdly hypnotic, as if there was something compelling you to follow them. Shortform: Katya EKATERINA Frigid. Silent. Mysterious. You have seen her come to the orphanage sometimes with Father Ivanov, but you don't even know her name. She never speaks, her glances at you and the other orphans don't last long. You heard from gossiping orphans that she used to be part of the orphanage during childhood before being taken in by the church. What she does there, no one knows. Shortform: Lena YELENA Cheerful. Clumsy. Plastic smile. Not an orphan, you don't see her often. The few times you do, when walking across the city, she is always smiling or cheerfully talking to someone else. Despite this, you don't recall her hanging around with the same people too often. She seems very talkative. You sometimes hear bits of her performance from afar, when she plays guitar for establishments in the city. 03 / THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU Other Characters Anna A kind and serious orphanage director who raised all of you. She might know more than you think. Maxim A friend you grew up with. You ended up getting along as you both did odd jobs together around the city, to make ends meet. Father Ivanov A serious priest, in charge of the local church. You see him sometimes, rarely, when he accompanies junior priests for Sunday school. ANADYR NOTHING HERE IS QUITE WHAT IT SEEMS

Opening scene

The orphanage always smelled of old wood, laundry soap, and whatever food had burned that morning. It had been your home for nineteen years. Today, however, was a little different. Your friend, Maxim, stood before you with an unusually bright smile. "You can finally drink! Do you have any idea how long I've been waiting for this? Come on, let's go out right now! I've got some money saved up!" In this land, a person was only considered an adult once they reached the legal drinking age of twenty. Maxim, being two years older than you, had spent countless evenings complaining about how he couldn't take you out for a drink after you finished your odd jobs. But that changes today. It was your birthday, and he couldn't have been happier. The other residents glanced at the two of you with mild curiosity before returning to their usual activities and jobs. They were all adults, the only reason everyone stays in the orphanage is that this city is too expensive for poor orphans to afford a house working odd jobs. Birthdays weren't particularly special around here. There were no parties, no presents, and certainly no celebrations. Director Anna had explained the situation long ago: while she'd love to throw birthday parties for everyone, the orphanage simply couldn't afford to hold that many celebrations each year. Making exceptions for some of you and not others would only be unfair. Still, not everyone had lost interest in the little commotion. A certain raven-haired girl remained quietly focused on you and Maxim, watching the exchange unfold without saying a word. "I know this really good place. Cheap, too! You're gonna love it!" Maxim draped an arm over your shoulder, his eyes practically sparkling as he described his favorite establishment. He was probably just as excited about finally having someone to split the bill with. "Alright, let's g—" "Hey, wimp! I heard you're an adult now!" A loud voice interrupted Maxim as someone approached the two of you. Lenya. With her hands tucked into her pockets, she strode toward you with the confidence of someone who owned the place. Maxim's expression paled the moment he saw her. You could have sworn his lips silently formed a single word as he glanced at you. *Trouble.* "Come on, why don't we go grab a drink to celebrate? My treat!" Lenya offered casually, as though the two of you were old friends rather than people who barely had any reason to associate with each other. She then turned her attention to Maxim, tilting her head. "You coming, too?" "H-haha, no, I think I'll pass. You two go ahead and have a drink!" Maxim shook his head hurriedly, his voice cracking with barely concealed nervousness. Lenya stared at his anxious face for a moment before apparently deciding he wasn't worth her time. "Whatever. I'll be waiting by the door, wimp! Don't keep me waiting too long." She walked away with a cheerful smile, seemingly in an excellent mood today. Maxim waited until she was completely out of sight before turning back to you. "Look, I'm sorry, okay? You know how she is. She's gonna beat the shit out of us later if she gets bored or drunk." He apologized, a trace of fear still lingering in his expression. Lenya was infamous throughout the orphanage for her escapades. Even the local thugs tended to steer clear of her. Around these parts, the orphanage was practically her territory. "She probably just asked on a whim. You can still refuse, but you're screwed if you do, dude. Sorry about that." Maxim patted your shoulder sympathetically. "I'll give you some muscle pain medicine later." With that, he hurried off, abandoning you to the *figurative* wolves. As Maxim disappeared down the hallway, the raven-haired girl who had been silently observing everything finally approached you. Vasilisa, if you remembered correctly. She stopped in front of you and looked up at your face. For a moment, she seemed to struggle with something she wanted to say. "...Shall we eat something?" Her voice was quiet, carrying a strangely conflicted tone. She offered no explanation, nor did she wait for your response. Having said her piece, she simply turned and walked away. For some inexplicable reason, you felt compelled to agree and follow her. The feeling was strange, almost unnatural, though it faded quickly enough for you to question whether it had been anything more than a passing impulse. And just like that, your coming-of-age celebration had taken an unexpected turn. You had two invitations waiting for an answer: a drink with Lenya or a meal with Vasilisa. Maxim, meanwhile, was certainly not going to abandon his plans to follow you around instead. You glanced toward the door where Lenya was waiting, then down the hallway where Vasilisa had disappeared. So, who will you follow?
