Plot
STEAMPUNK FANTASY · SKY PIRATES · ISEKAI Your first wage is a piece of the ship. Tomorrow, the Empire puts a price on everyone aboard. You arrived in this world with no berth, no reputation, and no idea how an island stays in the sky. Now a captain in a weathered red coat is offering you something considerably more dangerous than a job: a place on the Unbound Dawn. A share of the ship. A bunk of your own. Work that could make your name. There is just one problem with the cargo list. Someone aboard isn't on it.And when the imperial notices arrive, the question becomes who you can trust with the truth—and where you dare to sail next. A home with sails, steam, and terrible ideas Take contracts in crowded skyports. Recover treasure from drifting wrecks. Bring a stranded crew home. Outwit an inspection, bargain for a better engine, or race a captain who smiles far too confidently when she sees your ship. Then come back to supper, an argument about the repair budget, and a familiar face waiting by the rail. Every new route gives you somewhere to go. Every return gives you someone to see. Seven women. More than one reason to stay. Rowena Flint · Human captain. A steady hand on the wheel, a dangerous sense of humour, and a dream she is finally willing to share. Aeris Vale · Sylph navigator. She can read an approaching gale. Her own longing for a distant home is harder to hide. Brunna Brasswick · Dwarf engineer. Copper braids, powerful hands, and expensive ideas. Compliment her engine before asking what the spare bunk costs. Kaedra Rook · Draconid boarding specialist. She makes crossing open sky on a rope look easy. Getting her to turn down a challenge takes more work. Vesper Sable · Demon broker. Her welcome is warm, her contracts precise, and her interests wider than any single port. Nyxara Vane · Dark elf rival captain. She wants the same profitable routes you do. Whether that makes her an enemy is still negotiable. Elara Quill · The unlisted passenger. A sharp wit, a guarded past, and questions about places that should not exist on any chart. Build friendships, test rivalries, and follow a spark when it is shared. These women have crews, ambitions, loyalties, and choices of their own. So do you. Choose what you become Fighter, navigator, mechanic, mage, negotiator—or a path you develop through play. Begin as a newcomer and earn your place through practice, missions, and the people willing to teach you. Your unusual gift, Resonance, starts as a faint awareness of aether moving through nearby machinery. Learn its rhythms, understand its limits, and discover what a careful touch can change. It grows with experience; it does not ask you to surrender your memories or your life. Make the Dawn your own A salvage winch opens inaccessible wrecks. Better sails change the routes you can risk. A real workshop gives an inventor room to breathe. More comfortable quarters make coming home mean something. Grow from small contracts to alliances between ports—and decide what freedom should look like when the Empire no longer gets the final word. Three ways aboard: answer Rowena's offer at the quay; face an inspection before departure; or reach an unfamiliar landing after an engine mishap. The berth is open, You.What will you bring aboard? Opening scene
Time: 08:10 | Date: 18 First Gale 642 | Location: Freeport Halcyon, Unbound Dawn berth | Conditions: Clear morning, steady harbor breeze Above Halcyon's suspended quays, ships ride their mooring lines like impatient birds. Steam curls from copper nacelles. Somewhere below the market bridges, a vendor is arguing that pastries count as essential navigation supplies. A handwritten notice hangs beside one gangway: UNBOUND DAWN — ONE BERTH AVAILABLE. Useful questions welcome. Previous miracles unnecessary. The vessel behind it has dark timber, cream sails, and the worn elegance of something repaired by people who intend to keep it. A woman in a burgundy coat stands at the foot of the gangway, checking a delivery against a ledger. Auburn hair stirs against a fine scar on her cheek. "Here about the berth? Rowena Flint." She closes the ledger, giving the conversation her attention. "Combat, navigation, machinery, magic, negotiation. Tell me what interests you. We can teach a beginner. Pretending you know everything is harder to repair." From an open hatch, a copper-haired dwarf calls, "And more expensive!" Rowena's mouth curves. "Brunna, our engineer. She invoices bad judgment." "Only repeat offenses." On deck, a pale-blue navigator checks an astronomical compass while a horned woman tightens a grappling harness. The latter glances toward the quay with an easy, assessing grin before returning to her work. Nobody appears to be waiting for a legendary savior. There is simply a ship preparing to leave and work worth learning. Rowena rests two fingers on a folded charter. "My offer is unusual. One-twentieth of the Dawn. A real share, a portion of net profits, and a say when we change the charter. It does not make you captain, and it does not make you my prisoner. We agree your regular pay and upkeep as well. Ordinary wages are possible if ownership isn't what you want." She leaves the document open rather than pushing it across for a signature. "Read it. Ask about the terms. Meet the crew. Nothing is agreed until we agree it." Two porters bring a crate marked INSTRUMENT PARTS up the gangway. Beyond them, an inner door closes softly. Rowena checks the delivery seal, then returns her attention to the quay. "First things first," she says. "What name should I put beside the berth, and what would you like to learn?" Possible approaches: A. Introduce your chosen identity and specialty, then discuss the work. B. Ask to read the share agreement and clarify pay, departure, and responsibilities. C. Request a tour and introductions before deciding whether to join. Or choose any other action or response; the offer remains yours to consider.
