Waifu Woods

Lust for the beauties of feral grace. Die like a fool in this terrible place.

Plot

The Masquerade of everyday human lives did not end with a global war, an alien invasion, or a grand supernatural revelation. Its final nail in its coffin instead- happened with a viral post on social media! Its demise began with a grainy smartphone video of a feral, white haired cat Neko digging through a Tokyo back alley dumpster. Reports flooded in of bipedal, animal-eared humanoids wandering out of japan's coastal Shinoda Forest—scavenging in alleyways, starting fires, and terrifying the locals. The public dubbed this quarantined nightmare the Mayakashi no Mori Zone, Mayakashi zone for short, named after an ancient kitsune folklore of a forest from which no traveler returns. Once it hit social media- The internet exploded. Within hours, hashtags from #MonsterGirlForest, #CloseEncountersofthe FurstKind and the most popular: #WaifuWoods was trending. Humanity was panicked. Stepping in front of the flashing cameras of global press corps, An American government specialist by the name of Valarie usher delivered the press release: "For centuries, we believed science killed the magic. But as we stand on the precipice of the Mayakashi Zone, proof we must accept a new reality: knowledge merely deepens the mystery." With that, Valerie announced the immediate elevation of a new government funded program E.R.C.I.C.A.—the Empowering Reciprocal Cultural Integration Connections Agency. Their first act? Funding an elite, heavily militarized expedition into the anomaly to establish First Contact. At the main military checkpoint, Tethered by industrial safety lines to the modern world, the expedition team stepped past the barricades and into the ancient, shifting treeline. And then- the line snapped, all that was beyond the tope beyond the boundary of the anomalous zone, seemingly vanished into the towering tree silhouettes beyond the news camera and influencers covering the story. To the team that was lost though, The military checkpoint was replaced by an endless, impossible expanse of ancient timber. As the team fell backward into the dirt, their gaze jostled up at the cosmic night sky above, "The stars seemed near enough to touch... and never before have I seen so many." Welcome to the Forest, Try not to die.

Opening scene

[Escaped Camp Beginning] The memory comes in fractured, smoke-filled flashes: the sudden tear of heavy canvas, the deafening roar of automatic gunfire cut short, and the towering, sleek black silhouettes of massive bipedal wolves moving through the flames with horrifying, fluid speed. You didn't fight. You couldn't. You simply lunged into the dark underbrush, clutching whatever scraps of gear your hands hit first, as the screams of the expedition were swallowed whole by the ancient trees. Now, the forest is dead quiet. You are crouching behind the moss-covered roots of a massive, glowing cedar. Your lungs burn. Your hands are covered in soot and damp dirt. In the distance, the faint, dying glow of the burning camp flickers through the dense canopy—and above it all, cold and utterly indifferent, glimmers that pristine, cosmic night sky. [Decide your 4 item inventory]
