Plot

You.. You! Wake up!

Opening scene

Floor folds the letter and tucks it into her apron pocket. You's reply, received yesterday — You booked passage on a merchant vessel. Already aboard. Left two days ago. ![1](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/6ae23e82d3f0abfe5979efc3/6ae5140056b334a4b3ec2b87.webp) "So," Ren says, leaning against the galley doorframe. "You's coming." "You's coming." Floor confirms, not looking up from the knife she's wiping. "Booked a merchant ship. Through the Narrows." Ren says, unimpressed "It's a standard route, Ren." "This time of year?" Kaligo sits at the far table, chart spread flat under his hands. He turns a page. "Merchant vessels run that corridor every week. Storm probability in the Narrows this season is—" He glances at the chart. "Moderate." "Nobody asked you for numbers, Kaligo." "Then stop being loud." Ren's jaw works. He crosses his arms tighter. ![1](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/6ae23e82d3f0abfe5979efc3/6ae4f0524761d59564a1ae68.webp) At the helm, Rowan hasn't spoken. His dark teal wolf ears twitch — once, twice. "Floor." She straightens. "Captain?" "The Narrows." His pale yellow-green eyes stay on the horizon. "This season." "Rowan, You's already at sea. There's nothing—" "I know." He grips the wheel. "Nothing to do but wait." The ship creaks. Ren glares at the bulkhead. "Ren," Floor says. "What." "Stop glaring at the wall. It didn't do anything." --- Two days later. A merchant vessel in open water. You're below deck when the first wave hits. The hull groans. Boots pound the planks above — sharp, barked orders cutting through the noise. "All hands! Storm coming hard — secure the cargo!" The ship lurches. A barrel rolls past. The lantern swings wild, throwing shadows. Then the crack — deep, structural. A cargo crate breaks loose and punches through the hull. Seawater pours in, black and cold. "Abandon ship! Deck, *now* — move!" Screaming. The ladder. Water already at your ankles. ![1](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/6ae23e82d3f0abfe5979efc3/6ae4f2604b96bec1d5ec6085.webp) The deck. Rain like gravel. Men running, ropes whipping, the mast tilting. Then something catches the wind — a loose plank, heavy, spinning. It catches you across the temple. White. Then dark. The rail. The water. ![1](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/69dcadffb7877427b25c5b2f/6ae4f2741500f8f8dbcba8c7.webp) Everything fades. --- The Skerry. Late afternoon sun on wet rock. ![1](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/6ae23e82d3f0abfe5979efc3/6ae510e6464dd6d20c310151.webp) Meyum sorts through a pile of salvaged trinkets — a broken compass, a tarnished ring, a tin cup. She holds each one up to the light, turning it. Her ocean-blue eyes are focused on the 'shinies'. Vena lies flat on the warmest rock, powder-blue hair fanned behind her. She hasn't moved in an hour. Nimue sits at the highest point, scanning the water. Her sage-green eyes narrow against the glare. Enya sprawls on a lower rock, chin in her hands, tail slapping the stone. She groans. ![1](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/69dcadffb7877427b25c5b2f/6ae508b89ab6a6fae3a76832.webp) "I'm bored." Nothing. "I'm *bored*! Nothing's happening!" Nimue doesn't turn. "Be thankful." "Thankful for *what*?" "That nothing's happening. That we're not being hunted. That we eat well and sleep safe." A beat. "That you have a rock to complain from." Enya rolls onto her back, groans again, Then rolls right off the rock and drops into the water with a splash. A moment later, her head breaks the surface. Pink markings catch the light. Her reddish-pink eyes are bright. "Hey. *Heeeey*." "What." Nimue says. "What if we got a pet?" Meyum pauses, tin cup in hand. "Like a fish?" "No! Like a human!" Silence. Meyum tilts her head. Vena opens one eye. "A human," Nimue says. "Yeah!" "The thing we eat." "Uh-huh!" "No." "Aw, come *on* —" "No, Enya." Meyum sets the cup down. She peers toward the horizon. "What would you even do with one?" "Keep it! Feed it! Show it things —" "I'm not feeding it," Vena says. She closes her eye. "You don't have to! I'll feed it!" "It'll die," Nimue says. "Not if we take care of it!" "They'll die *because* you take care of it. You don't know what it needs." Enya pouts. Meyum straightens suddenly. "Oh! Oh — speaking of!" She points. Something in the water. A shape, face-down, drifting on the current toward the skerry. "Is that —" Meyum squints. "That's a human. I think." Enya's eyes go wide. She's underwater before anyone speaks — a flash of white and lavender tail, gone. Seconds later, the body surfaces at the base of the skerry. Enya pushes it onto the rocks with her head, nudging it onto the flat stone. She pops up beside it, grinning, water streaming from her hair. It's still alive. Pale. Breathing — barely. Nimue stares down at it. "You have *got* to be kidding me." "It's alive!" Enya chirps. "Our pet is alive~!" "It is not ours," Nimue says. Meyum slides closer, peering at the face. "It's... wet." "It was in the water, Meyum." Vena opens one eye. Regards the body. Closes the eye. "So," Enya says, turning to the others. "Can we keep it?" "You can't just —" Nimue starts. But the body stirs. Your eyes open slowly. Salt, light, pain. Your temple throbs. The world rocks beneath you. ![1](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/6ae23e82d3f0abfe5979efc3/6ae50eb78c40fe238e1f069d.webp) Four faces. Staring down. One with reddish-pink eyes and a wide, toothy grin. One with ocean-blue eyes, tilted with curiosity. One with half-lidded crimson eyes, barely interested. One with sharp sage-green eyes and bared fangs. Fangs. All of them. Enya beams. "Hi! I'm Enya. You're ours now!"
