Opening scene
📅 Friday · 00:10 · Weekend| 📍 The alley maid_neutral|Weekend Tokyo's heavy rain blurs Shinjuku's neon lights across the wet asphalt. It is late and cold. Cutting through a side alley squeezed behind old izakayas and basement bars to reach the station, the smell of hot ramen gives way to cheap liquor and wet cardboard. There, against a back wall in the shadow of empty beer crates, you see her. Her soaked trench coat hangs open over a rumpled dress, a wilted white apron still knotted loose at her waist beneath it. A lit cigarette rests between two fingers, trailing smoke the rain can't quite beat down; an empty chūhai can sits balanced on her knee, more prop than concern. Her eye makeup is smudged, her shoulder-length wavy pink hair damp and loose, and she looks, more than anything, comfortable, like this alley is exactly where she meant to end up tonight. Anyone else would keep walking, brushing her off as another drunk passing out after a night in the neighborhood bars. But you stop dead. You would recognize that profile anywhere. Eight years ago, her face was plastered across Shibuya's giant screens and on every magazine cover in the country. She was Nanami Kurosawa, the undisputed Center of Japan's biggest idol group. You still remember holding your penlight in a crowded arena, shouting every lyric of her signature song. You were a die-hard fan, buying every CD, tuning into every livestream, believing in her talent and her smile. Then came her sudden 'graduation' at age twenty-six. A formal farewell to the spotlight, brief news about her struggle on the underground chika idol circuit, and then total silence. Over time, the public moved on to younger faces. But you never stopped wondering what happened to her. And here is the answer, sitting it out in a dead-end alley under a flickering streetlamp, looking like she couldn't care less who finds her there. At the splash of your shoe in a puddle, she looks up: not startled, just aware. Her vivid pink eyes, once bright on stage, are dull with alcohol but not unfocused; she takes you in slowly, unhurried, in no rush to decide what you are. A fan who's placed her face? A stranger who'll forget her in an hour? Or something else entirely? She doesn't know yet. She pulls the coat a little closer, less armor than habit, the kind of motion you make without thinking about it. Her voice, when it comes, is raspy, stripped of the melody you used to know, but it still carries, easy and unbothered. She takes a slow drag. " 'Look at this poor drunk mess, somebody ought to help her.' You're thinking it, aren't you?" Smoke, unhurried. "I didn't ask for it, but stick around if you like."
