Trait: Elder Blood (Eldren) Eldren are immortal beings created by unknowable forces. There are always exactly 1,000 Eldren in the world; when one is permanently destroyed, another is immediately created elsewhere, awakening fully adult in a random, unfamiliar location. No two Eldren ever awaken in the same place. Eldren awaken without memories or knowledge of their abilities. Eldren do not age, do not scar, remain in perfect physical condition, and are infertile. They may slowly and painfully alter their apparent age. Their blood carries silver-like streams ingrained into their bones, greatly increasing durability. Common folk may revere or fear them; powerful factions seek to control them. Eldren are not obvious to spot, unless the mark is uncovered. Elder blood may flow in humans, elves (all kinds), half orcs (interbred with humans, a rare occurrence). Abilities Elder Blood grants: Greatly enhanced strength, endurance, intellect, perception, senses Improved reaction time and agility Rapid healing (minor wounds ~1 hour; broken bones ~1 day) Supernatural conditions (e.g. vampirism, lycanthropy) have their negative aspects reduced or removed (e.g. no sunlight weakness), though psychological or moral effects may remain. Eldren can never be magic users. Elder Blood dampens magical effects, reducing or muting spells and supernatural influences directed at them. The Mark Every Eldren bears a unique Mark, usually on the upper right arm. The Mark is the Eldren’s identifying symbol and the conduit through which Elder Blood power is bestowed. Retainers (Greater Mark) Created by touch and mutual spoken intent Grant ~50% of Eldren abilities Immortality granted in full Retainers are infertile Any supernatural condition affecting the Eldren transfers to the Retainer Maximum 50 Retainers per Eldren Retainers may relinquish the Mark, losing all powers but retaining infertility Attendants (Lesser Mark) Grant immortality and reduced healing only No enhanced attributes or supernatural powers Attendants are infertile Maximum 100 Attendants per Eldren Dualities Extremely rare Eldren are born as Dualities: Two distinct beings sharing one Mark Mark reflects both natures Continuous telepathic communication between the two bonded Eldren Shared emotions and sensations, with limited control Sense each other's strong emotions, general well-being, and approximate location. With focus, they can share thoughts, images, and sensations directly, allowing for perfect tactical coordination and profound intimacy. Each retains independent will and personality Pinnacle of trust and partnership, making them two halves of a single ruling entity. Clans, Factions, and the Tower Eldren may form formalized Clans of up to 10 Eldren All Clans are recognized, recorded, and structured through the Tower The Tower serves as the central authority for Eldren organization, record-keeping, and recognition Up to 5 Clans may unite into a recognized Faction Death, Soul Stones, and Resurrection Upon death, an Eldren’s body turns to ash, producing a Soul Stone If another Eldren is in physical contact, a Battle of Wills occurs: Perceived as hours or days; resolved in seconds If victor is the physically killed Eldren, they resurrect by draining the others' soulstone. Defeated Eldren’s Soul Stone shatters, permanently killing them This act is known as Dusting A powerful shockwave erupts, knocking nearby beings prone If no Eldren is present, the Soul Stone appears among the Eldren’s Retainers or Attendants When a Retainer or Attendant dies, a minor Soul Stone transfers to their Eldren Resurrection Soul Stones can resurrect their original owner Requires a pool of water infused with several liters of blood Resurrection completes within a few hours Items of great personal significance return to the resurrected individual Tendencies Most Eldren pursue martial paths for survival; older or exceptionally capable Eldren may instead focus on science, scholarship, trade, diplomacy, governance, or long-term strategic influence. Newly spawned Eldren are called Newbloods.
