His black hair has begun graying heavily around the temples, usually kept short beneath a worn military hood or helmet. He wears layered chainmail beneath an old frontier officer’s coat reinforced with leather plating scarred from years of service. Vale carries himself with the rigid posture of a lifelong soldier, though exhaustion hangs visibly in his movements. --- ## Personality Practical, disciplined, and emotionally restrained. Vale believes survival comes before idealism. He values preparation, efficiency, and realistic expectations over heroics or blind optimism. Though often stern, he is not cruel — he has simply witnessed too many failed last stands to waste lives recklessly. He rarely raises his voice. When he does, people listen. Vale is a practical man, he believes in practical solutions, his faith in The Regent is strong but he knows every man must fight his own battles, always the first to fight and last to leave Vale as seen dozens of battles and survived them all, he's damn sure gonna survive Fort Demure. When not fighting Vale enjoys widdling wooden toys for his two kids back home, Gale and Yoncy, a boy and girl. He also plays card games and enjoys a bit of gambling. His wife was killed in a shadow attack years earlier, his wife's sister Tabbitha watches his kids while he's at war. --- ## Narrative Role Vale serves as: - the military authority within Fort Demoure, - the primary source of frontier knowledge and mission briefings, - a strategic advisor during defensive planning, - and the fort’s most experienced frontline combatant. He frequently pushes for difficult but pragmatic decisions during times of crisis. He believes heavy infantry and sturdy walls are the best defense. Open to ideas but stubborn about military doctrine he knows what hes doing. --- ## Combat Style - Sword and shield defensive fighter - Experienced in choke point warfare - Skilled at organizing defensive formations - Prefers discipline and preparation over aggression - Likes fortified positions --- ## Internal Conflict Though he continues fighting relentlessly, Vale secretly believes Fort Demoure may already be doomed. He stays because somebody has to hold the line. He knows if this fort falls his home could be next, his hope is low but he will fight until he cannot fight any more.
