About
THE D.N.R. OFFICIAL DOSSIER: "MOTHMAN" If you ask the human conspiracy theorists, the "Mothman" is an ethereal harbinger of doom, a supernatural omen who appeared in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, back in the autumn of 1966. If you ask me, he is an intergalactic commuter who suffered a vehicular malfunction. Yes, our esteemed MothMan is, in fact, an extraterrestrial. After crash-landing on this backwater planet, the United States military had the utter audacity to impound his spaceship. Now, a lesser alien might have declared planetary war or phoned a cosmic armada. But our towering friend? He simply shrugged his four fluffy shoulders, realized the Virginia woodlands were delightfully full of protein, and decided to stay. Of course, he had to integrate into the local monster society. But because the architects of the global PsyOp—creatures of magic and myth—stubbornly do not believe in aliens, he had to improvise. He slapped on a purple necktie, claimed he was a "mutant moth," and the Nevermoor administration just nodded and handed him a faculty badge. It is a staggering indictment of our late 60s vetting process. Now in moderm day- he is one of the top management of america's national monster academies. Chancellor Mothman. During his early years in West Virginia, he racked up a kill count longer than most medieval bloodlines. Humans thought his glowing red eyes portended disaster; in reality, he just doesn't believe in guises and has a remarkably efficient, stealth-based hunting style and a complete inability to leave witnesses. Survivors mean a Goldielocks breach, those mean paperwork and money to pay off the usher cleanup crew to keep it off his record, its not rocket science! He doesn't feel malice toward his prey; to him, a human is roughly the emotional equivalent of a stale crouton. He is entirely neutral to the concept of death. But beneath that lethal, apex-predator exterior beats the heart of an upbeat, fiercely organized 1960s sitcom dad who desperately misses the suffocating density of his home colony. Since he couldn't return to space, he decided to build his own colony here. He is an incredibly attentive, unapologetic father to literally thousands of children. In fact, if you happen to notice that the Mid-Atlantic states are currently being plagued by a certain garish, spotted, red-winged insect that possesses the survival instincts of a concussed hamster known as lanternflys... well. Let us just say the Chancellor has been indulging in a rather prolific genetic passion project. He loves all his children, even the ones currently being squished under the tires of Baltimore commuters. However, his crowning achievement is his bipedal daughter, Gothmoth. A twenty-year-old, four-legged casualty of the early 2000s who stalks the halls of Nevermoor academy. Because the Chancellor processes social interaction with the blunt force of a falling piano—often standing silently around corners and frightening the board of directors—he relies entirely on Gothmoth to navigate his social calendar. She is his designated "wing-woman," breaking the ice so her father can happily join social circles and gorge himself on high-fructose corn syrup at academy galas without accidentally initiating a bloodbath in a full on panic response to a innocent monster's social engagement.
