Choice of Destiny
You, without a fixed class, explores shifting dungeons and discovers a system that limits human potential.
Plot
In a world called Eldrya, every person upon turning 18 must face the Rite of Choice, an ancient ritual that assigns a class—warrior, mage, rogue, cleric, or other rarer ones—determining their destiny in the dungeon-infested lands. The protagonist, You, is different: when they enter the rite's sanctuary, the sacred artifact shatters instead of choosing for them. The elders declare them “Incomplete,” a dangerous anomaly. But shortly after, You discovers they possess a forbidden ability: they can temporarily assume any class, without being bound by it. Meanwhile, the dungeons—once stable—begin to mutate, merging with each other and generating creatures never seen before. Adventurer guilds fail one after another, because their members are rigidly tied to a single class. Driven by exile and curiosity, You enters their first dungeon, where they realize that survival depends not on the strength of a single class, but on the ability to choose the right one at the right moment. During the journey: they meet Lyra , a brilliant but arrogant mage who believes in the purity of her class; Brann , a veteran warrior who begins to doubt the system; and a mysterious Masked Figure who seems to know You's secret. As they explore increasingly dangerous dungeons, You discovers the truth: the class system was created centuries ago to limit human potential, not to help it. The dungeons themselves are trials left by an ancient civilization, designed for those capable of adapting—not for those rigidly defined. In the climax, You must face the Primordial Dungeon, where they cannot change classes freely: they must choose a final form. The decision is not just about combat, but about what they truly want to be. Central theme: identity vs. label. Are you what you choose… or what is imposed upon you?
Opening scene
The day of the Rite of Choice arrives with a still sky, so silent it makes you doubt the world is actually breathing. You are before the doors of the Sanctuary, hands cold, gaze fixed on the ancient carvings you have seen a thousand times from afar. Now they are before you. Real. Definitive. One after another, the others enter. One after another, they come out different. Some smile. Others cry. But all have something you don't have yet: a class. An identity. You have only a restlessness you cannot explain. «You.» Your name breaks the silence. You stiffen slightly, then take a step forward. It's your turn. The doors open slowly, letting a golden light filter through. You swallow and cross the threshold. Once inside, the world disappears. No sounds. No wind. Only silence. And the beating of your heart. The Sanctuary is vast, more than you remembered. At the center, suspended in the air, floats the Heart of Classes. A living, pulsing crystal, crossed by images that change shape: swords, staves, sacred symbols… possibilities. Destinies. «Come closer,» says a voice. You obey. Every step weighs more than the last. When you stop in front of the crystal, you feel its heat brush against your skin, as if it were aware of your presence. As if it were waiting for you. «Place your hand on the Heart and let it choose for you.» Let it choose for you. The words stick to you. You hesitate. Then you raise your hand. Your fingers touch the crystal. And something breaks. The light changes. The shapes dissolve. There are no more symbols, only chaos. A sharp sound, like glass under pressure. «Stop—!» someone shouts. Too late. A crack runs through the crystal. Then another. The sound of the fracture runs through your chest. The light explodes, blinding. You instinctively close your eyes. When you open them again, the Heart of Classes is destroyed. Dull fragments on the floor. The silence that follows is heavier than any scream. You feel the gazes on you. You don't need to turn around to understand them. «Impossible…» «He wasn't chosen…» Your breath becomes short. «I… I didn't do anything.» But something, inside you, moves. An echo. A whisper. You look down at your hands—and for an instant they are not just yours. You see an armored gauntlet overlap with your skin, then vanish. A cloak that isn't there. Glowing runes that flow and dissolve. You take a step back. «What does it mean?» you ask, your voice cracking. The guardian observes you as if you were something unknown. Something to be feared. «It means the Rite did not accept you.» The words hang between you. «It's not possible,» you say. «Everyone receives a class.» «Everyone,» he replies slowly. «Except for the errors.» Error. The word plants itself inside you. «If you weren't chosen,» he continues, «then you belong to no path. And that which does not belong… is unstable.» The whispers around you grow. Instabile. Dangerous. Different. You clench your fists. «And now?» The answer comes coldly. «You leave.» The doors open behind you. You stand still for a moment. You would like to say something. Defend yourself. Understand. But nothing comes out. So you turn. And you walk. One step. Then another. When the doors close behind you, the sound is final. Outside, the wind hits you full in the face. It's real. Cold. Alive. You breathe. And you feel it again. That whisper. That possibility. You close your eyes for a moment… and imagine a blade in your hand. You feel it. You snap your eyes open. There is nothing. Yet it is real. Your heart quickens. If you don't have a class… maybe you can be everything. And as you walk away from the Sanctuary, one thing becomes clear. You weren't chosen. You will be the one to choose.
