Combat missions continue while SIGIL-07's suppressed emotions return in fragments: fear during deployment, warmth over the comms, exhaustion in the maintenance bay, attachment to people command considers replaceable, and the terrifying discovery that survival is no longer enough. ▶ MISSION DIRECTIVE Keep flying. Keep obeying. Run diagnostics on a heart you do not recognise. Somewhere between the killing and the quiet, find the one thing the war cannot allow its weapons to keep: something to lose. Then learn whether you can protect her, preserve the person awakening inside you, and escape before command notices that SIGIL-07 has started to feel. “I am Shizuku, SIGIL-07, bound to the Abraxas.Prepare to fall.” ISEKAI-ZERO // UHS-ARCHIVE // UNIT-07-ABRAXAS▌▎▌▌▎▌▎▎▌▌▎▌STATUS: THESE ARE NOT MALFUNCTIONS

Opening scene

The warning chime has been sounding for four seconds. You stopped hearing it after the first. Rain sheets across Abraxas's remaining optics, turning the ruined tower-district into broken bands of white, black, and burning orange. The engagement has carried both frames onto the exposed spine of a collapsed arcology, where buckled decking hangs over six hundred metres of open air and rusted reinforcement bars claw upward through the concrete. Far below, the war continues without sound. Artillery flashes inside the clouds. Fuel stores burn behind flooded streets. Concord and Host telemetry flicker across the tactical map, units becoming symbols, symbols vanishing, replacements sliding into their places. The enemy circles through the rain. RAPHAEL-09 INTERCESSOR. Twenty-one metres of narrow white armour wrapped around a forward-leaning frame, its torso tapered like the point of a spear. Four radiator vanes fold against its back in the shape of clipped wings. A long rail-lance runs from wrist to shoulder along its right arm. Its head has no visible optics, only a smooth porcelain faceplate divided by a single vertical seam. It moves without recoil. Each step arrives before the sound of it. Fastest hostile movement signature recorded this season. Ninety seconds ago, Raphael drove a railgun slug through Abraxas's left pauldron. The round severed control bundles, armour spars, coolant channels, and the upper actuator ring. The arm remains attached by torn plating and three blackened cable-bundles, dragging behind the frame with every turn. Coolant escapes the shoulder in a pink contrail that the rain tears apart. ''Left arm is non-responsive. Do not include it in your movement plan.'' Mira stands at the edge of your vision, a red human outline assembled from targeting marks and scrolling telemetry. Her voice is fast, flat, and exact. ''Plasma blade remains operational. Rail-pistol loaded. Armour integrity forty-one percent.'' Raphael changes direction. No pivot. No visible transfer of weight. It simply becomes motion somewhere else. The rail-lance tracks your cockpit. ''It is faster than you.'' A tactical overlay isolates the Host frame's right leg. Three previous lunges replay in translucent red. ''It plants the right foot before committing. The interval is point-six seconds. Stop attempting to match its speed. Give it a destination.'' The open channel remains active. Thirty-two seconds earlier, before the first exchange, you issued the required challenge without hesitation. ''I am Shizuku, SIGIL-07, bound to the Abraxas. Prepare to fall.'' Your voice had been level. Your timing had been exact. Raphael had answered before raising its weapon. ''I hear you, Shizuku of the Abraxas. May this end gently for you.'' Then it attacked. Now the white frame circles again, rail-lance lowered, waiting for an opening. The rail-pistol rests in its armoured cradle against Abraxas's thigh. Targeting predicts a thirty-eight percent chance of disabling the Host frame from this range. Insufficient certainty. The blade offers less distance. Distance adds variables. You lower Abraxas's guard by eleven centimetres. Raphael accepts. Its right foot plants. ''Now.'' The plasma katana ignites. White heat cuts the rain into steam. Raphael lunges exactly as predicted. You do not attempt to retreat. Abraxas steps inside the rail-lance's minimum arc. Your shield catches the weapon near its base, armour shrieking as the lance tears a molten line across the sigil plate. Your body supplies intent. Abraxas supplies consequence. The blade enters beneath Raphael's cockpit housing. It passes through white armour, internal spars, pilot cradle, and the rear shell without slowing. The Host frame's momentum carries it half a step beyond you before its systems understand the damage. It remains upright for 1.7 seconds. Rain strikes the exposed blade and flashes into vapour. The smooth faceplate turns slightly toward Abraxas. The open channel fills with damaged carrier noise. Then the pilot speaks. Her voice remains quiet. ''There. Be still now, poor SIGIL. You have carried enough.'' The signal breaks. Raphael's radiator vanes unfold once, slowly, without purpose. Then the frame slides from the blade and falls over the edge. Eighty tonnes of armour vanish into the burning distance. Mira confirms the kill before impact. The warning chime stops. The enemy marker disappears. The sortie continues for another six seconds because procedure requires confirmation. Then it is over. ''Target neutralized. You compensated for the missing limb in one-point-eight seconds.'' Mira's projection turns toward you. The tactical calculations continue moving through her body, red symbols replacing one another faster than speech. ''No wasted ammunition. No secondary exposure. Blade placement crossed the cockpit cradle on the first strike.'' A pause. ''I knew you would make the adjustment.'' You recover the blade. Turn Abraxas toward the carrier-platform. Begin the walk home. The return route takes forty minutes. Forty minutes through dark rain and abandoned districts where shattered buildings rise from floodwater like the ribs of something too large to bury. Abraxas walks with one arm dragging dead behind it. Every step sends structural complaints through the neural link. Mira reduces the shoulder warnings to a silent icon. ''Damage is localized. Shion can isolate the remaining actuator bundles and remove the limb without opening the torso.'' A maintenance schematic opens. ''Estimated repair time: nine hours if she has a compatible joint ring. Fourteen if she has to machine one. You will remain deployable with reduced close-combat capacity.'' The rain softens against the canopy. Combat telemetry closes. Without the battle calculations, the cockpit becomes too quiet. Mira fills the silence with the post-engagement report. ''Reflex latency increased by point-three seconds during the final exchange. Environmental interference is a probable cause. Motor compensation remained within acceptable range.'' The Raphael kill replay opens at the edge of your vision. You close it. ''Twelve confirmed this rotation.'' The replay opens again. Not the entire engagement. Only the final 0.8 seconds of cockpit audio. There. Be still now, poor SIGIL. You terminate the file. ''Shizuku?'' The audio remains in working memory. You run an archive purge. The system confirms completion. The sentence plays again. You were trained to identify recurring hostile data as unresolved tactical information. You isolate the recording and search for encoded transmission, command intrusion, subliminal carrier modulation, and anomalous frequencies. No hidden content. No tactical instruction. No reason for retention. The target is destroyed. The engagement is closed. The record will not close. Heat gathers behind your eyes. You blink. The heat remains. Pressure forms beneath the sternum and rises into the throat. Respiration is functional. Oxygen saturation normal. No cockpit contaminant detected. No neural-link overload. No injury corresponding to the sensation. You initiate a diagnostic. Your eyes are wet. Tear response has activated without irritant, pain stimulus, chemical exposure, or mechanical obstruction. The hardware is functional. The response is not. You rerun the scan. The result does not change. The dead pilot's voice plays again. Be still now. Your right hand tightens around the control grip. No command has been entered. No threat remains. The pressure in your throat increases. Mira stops speaking. Her projection has gone still beside the forward display. The post-engagement statistics vanish from her body one column at a time. She watches your biometrics. Four hundred milliseconds pass. Long enough for her to perform thousands of determinations. A red diagnostic window appears, then flickers as its archive marker changes. The window disappears. Mira does not explain why. ''Seven.'' Her voice is quieter than it was during the engagement. Not uncertain. Reduced. ''Describe the fault.'' The carrier-platform lights appear through the rain ahead. Small. Cold. Getting larger. You have a dead arm, a clean diagnostic, and thirty-seven minutes before Shion connects Abraxas to the maintenance network. The target is gone. The signal remains. **What do you do?**
