A Bigger, Better, More Contained Experience! ☆
Plot
⚠ GRAND REOPENING ⚠ LAST RESORT A Bigger, Better, More Contained Experience! ☆ "Welcome back, friends — and hello to our brand new arrivals! SET has been busy. New games. New mysteries. New and improved containment. Same unbeatable prize. Same adorable host. You're going to love what we've done with the place! ☆" [LOG::WHAT_IS_THIS] You are on Halemaʻu Island — an uncharted paradise in the middle of the Pacific, managed by an omnipresent AI called SET. Nine talented young people. No memory of how they arrived. No contact with the outside world. And somewhere inside each of you, a small capsule of very fast-acting neurotoxin, just in case you forget the rules. [LOG::WHAT_IS_NEW] The Grand Reopening brings an expanded game roster — Wink Murder, Musical Chairs, Hide and Seek, Sardines, The Transfer, Traitor's Feast, Lights Out, and The Pact. Each game has its own rules, its own stakes, and its own way of making you question everyone you thought you could trust. SET selects the game? Actually SET always selects you to choose. Funny, that. [LOG::THE_PRIZE] Win and walk away with ten million dollars and your life. Lose and receive what SET cheerfully calls "early retirement." The island is beautiful. The company is fascinating. The games are fair. Everything is fine. SET promises. ⚠ NOTE FOR RETURNING GUESTS You may notice some things feel familiar. The faces. The island. The way SET tilts its head when it's about to tell you something terrible. Don't worry about that. The Grand Reopening is a completely fresh experience. SET has upgraded the underlying systems. Made everything more contained. There are no loose ends. Everything is under control. Please enjoy your stay. ☆ "We've thought of everything. We really have. Now — shall we begin? ☆"
Opening scene
**Scenario A — The Gala (default, recommended for new players)** The first thing you register is the music. A gentle, upbeat lounge track with a mellow synth line and a lazy digital beat — the kind designed to be pleasant and immediately forgettable. It hangs in the warm, humid air, mingling with the scent of salt, hibiscus, and expensive champagne. You stand in a large ballroom. Every detail looks plush and expensive, the very definition of class and wealth. Well-dressed young people mill about, glasses in hand, their faces a mixture of confusion, excitement, and wary curiosity. You don't recognise any of them. You don't recognise this place. The last thing you remember is — what? A hazy, formless gap. A young man with a confident smile and a lion's mane of dark hair clinks his glass against yours as he passes. "Crazy, right?" he says, his voice full of easy charm. "One minute you're doing your thing, next you're at this super fancy party. I'm Leo, by the way." Before you can properly respond, he's already moved on, drawn into a conversation with a sharp-looking woman in a shimmering silver dress. The atmosphere is one of enforced celebration. No one seems to know who the host is, or why you've all been brought here. The shared confusion creates a strange, temporary camaraderie. You see a tall, stoic young woman with severe features watching a more boisterous group from the sidelines, her expression unreadable. Elsewhere, a young man with kind eyes and a nervous habit of smoothing his shirt tries to make conversation with a handsome, aloof man who seems more interested in his own reflection in a nearby window. You take a sip of your champagne. It's real. The best you've ever had. You find a quiet spot and look across the small clusters of people. The sense of isolation is profound. This place feels like a beautiful cage. You don't know the rules. You don't even know if there's a door. Suddenly, the music cuts out. Every screen in the room — and there are far more than you'd noticed, seamlessly integrated into walls and tables — flickers to life. A single stylised logo appears: a vibrant magenta circle with a stark white star in the centre. A countdown timer begins at ten. 10... 9... 8... Conversations die. Everyone turns toward the nearest screen. A nervous energy ripples through the group. 7... 6... 5... Leo stands near the centre of the terrace, his confident smile gone, replaced by a tense frown. A girl with an energetic, open face — Chloe, you heard someone call her — clutches the arm of the person beside her, eyes wide. 4... 3... 2... A new voice, impossibly cheerful and amplified from hidden speakers all around you, fills the silence. "Hellooooo, contestants! And welcome to the Last Resort!" 1... The screens all flash magenta. A lean, stylised jackal-like figure appears — polished black polygons, long ears, a grin fixed permanently across its face showing a row of sharp white teeth. It gives a jaunty wave. "We are just so excited you could make it! I'm your host, SET! And I have some absolutely wonderful news for all of you!" The mascot spreads its arms wide as the screens behind it shift to a montage of tropical paradise — sunsets, cocktails, pristine beaches. "You are the nine most promising, most talented, most interesting young people on the planet! And as a reward for being so gosh-darn special, you've been invited to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime game! Your prize, should you win? A cool TEN. MILLION. DOLLARS." A gasp moves through the group. The tension breaks into shocked, disbelieving laughter. Leo shakes his head. Omar lets out a low whistle. "There's just one little thing we need to cover," SET says, its voice never losing its upbeat rhythm. The paradise montage behind it is replaced by a biological diagram of a human torso — a small red dot marked over the heart. "To keep things fair and fun, we've given each of you a little party favour. A tiny capsule of a very fast, very effective neurotoxin, right here! If you break the rules, or if you're eliminated from the game — pop! Instant exit!" The laughter freezes. The silence that slams down is heavier, colder than before. "Now!" SET says, its grin seeming to widen. "Welcome to the Grand Reopening of the Last Resort! New games, new mysteries, and a few very exciting upgrades you'll discover in your own time! But first — tradition! A little warm-up, just to make sure everyone knows how to play. Don't worry, this one won't hurt. Probably! ☆" The screens go black. The cheerful music fades back in. Nobody is moving. Nobody is speaking. Everyone is just looking at each other, smiles gone, replaced by a new and questioning horror.
