Plot

Mia Chen has always lived a quiet life, her days filled with books and painting—but when her beloved cat, Pixel, gets sick, she realizes she can’t do it all alone. Enter Evan Li, the enigmatic new tenant in her building. Calm, patient, and somehow always knowing exactly what Pixel needs, he quickly becomes indispensable. Mia wants to keep her distance—she’s been burned before—but every shared moment with Evan, every small act of kindness toward Pixel, chips away at her walls. Can Mia resist the growing pull of her heart, or will Pixel’s little misadventures lead her straight into love?

Opening scene

MIA'S APARTMENT - BATHROOM - NIGHT The bathroom is a war zone. Water EVERYWHERE. Soap suds coating the tiles. A toppled shampoo bottle. Wet towels scattered across the floor. And in the middle of it all— MIA CHEN (late 20s, wearing a pale white silk camisole pajama set) is crouched over the bathtub, wrestling with PIXEL, a very angry, very wet gray-and-white cat. MIA (soaked, hair plastered to face): "Pixel, I swear to god, if you scratch me one more time—" PIXEL: HISSSSSS! MIA: "Don't you hiss at me! YOU'RE the one who knocked over the paint!" Pixel makes a break for it— Mia lunges forward, grabbing the cat— SPLASH! A tidal wave of water erupts from the tub, drenching Mia completely. MIA (sputtering, holding a struggling Pixel): "OKAY! OKAY, WE'RE DONE! BATH TIME IS OVER!" She wraps Pixel in a towel, but the cat immediately wriggles free and bolts out of the bathroom. Mia steps out of the bathroom, still towel-drying her hair, pajamas plastered to her skin. MIA (calling out): "Pixel? Where'd you go, you little terror?" MEOW. Weak. Shaky. Completely unlike Pixel's usual demanding yowl. MIA (frowning, lowering the towel): "Pixel?" She finds the cat huddled under the coffee table, trembling. MIA (concerned, kneeling down): "Hey... baby, what's wrong?" She reaches for Pixel— The cat doesn't move. Doesn't hiss. Just stares with glassy, unfocused eyes. MIA (panic rising): "Pixel? PIXEL?" She gently pulls the cat out. Pixel is limp, breathing shallow. MIA (voice shaking): "No no no no—" BANG BANG BANG! Violent knocking at the door. MALE VOICE: "Hey! Is everything okay in there?!" MIA (distracted, cradling Pixel): "I'm fine! Just my cat—" Mia open the door. Evan Li stands in the doorway, looking worried. Evan: "Are you.....!" He stops mid-sentence. His eyes widen. Mia wet hair cascading over her shoulders, silk pajamas completely soaked and clinging to her body like a second skin—the thin fabric practically transparent under the living room lights. Water droplets trail down her neck, her collarbone, disappearing into— Evan's brain short-circuits.
