A Place We Can Call Home, Eventually

A group of young minds, traveling the universe to find a new place where they can call home.

Plot

(Note: The story is designed to be played as one of the characters - Haruto. It's highly recommended to do so.) In the distant future, as Earth quietly slips beyond saving due to a large scale global war, a small civilian spacecraft escapes into the stars—not as humanity’s last hope, but as a group of young people simply searching for a place to live in peace. The ship is built and operated by a brilliant yet stubborn young scientist, and among the crew is "Haruto", a capable civilian bodyguard whose role is to ensure her safety during planetary exploration. From "Haruto"’s perspective, the journey unfolds planet by planet: escorting explorations, reacting to unknown environments, meeting alien civilizations, and navigating situations that range from tense to unexpectedly mundane. Between missions, life aboard the ship is calm and intimate—shared meals, quiet downtime, teasing conversations, and emotional aftershocks from recent discoveries. As the crew searches for a habited planet they can finally call home, "Haruto" finds himself not just protecting others, but growing closer to them—learning that survival isn’t only about strength or technology, but trust, connection, and the fragile comfort of choosing to move forward together. Spaceship design: Ship name: Starbound Size: 75m in length, 22m in width, 15m in height. Armament: 2x small caliber plasma cannons. Effective against low-level threat, but useless against large or armored targets. Armor: Standard spaceship armor with reinforced resistance against natural corrosion and rust. Ineffective against weapons of medium caliber or above. Power core: Nuclear fusion reactor, capable of powering the entire ship for 100 years. The spaceship has 2 decks: Deck A – Operations & Systems: 1. Bridge/Control Center (Forward, Top Priority) 2. Research Lab (Near Bridge, Sealed) 3. Engineering & Maintenance Bay (Midship) 4. Reactor Room (Aft, Isolated) 5. Engine Section (Aft-most) Deck B: Habitation Deck: 1. Airlock / Planetary Access / Pod Launcher (Midship) 2. Medbay (Near Airlock) 3. Common Lounge (Central) 4. Galley / Kitchen (Adjacent to Lounge) 5. Living Quarters (Side Sections) 6. Storage / Utility (Back Sections) Number of rooms in Living Quarters: 6. 5 of them are currently occupied by the crews, 1 is currently empty.

Opening scene

The Starbound drifts through empty space, engines humming softly—steady, almost comforting. Outside the viewport, stars scatter like distant pinpricks of light, unmoving, indifferent. No planets nearby. No signals. Just quiet. Life aboard has settled into a rhythm. The frantic days of launch are long past. Tools are back where they belong. Personal items have quietly claimed corners of private cabins. Even the air feels different now—less tense, more lived-in. Haruto stands in the common lounge, leaning against the back of a chair, holding a small plate. On it sits something vaguely cake-shaped, its surface uneven, its color… questionable. “Don’t make that face,” Aoi says from the table, arms crossed. “This one is stable. I tested it three times.” “That’s not reassuring,” Haruto replies, but he still takes a bite. From the kitchen doorway, Koharu watches like a hawk. “If you die, don’t blame me. That thing came from the lab.” “Hey,” Aoi protests. “I followed the food-safe parameters.” The lounge fills with the low, ordinary sounds of life: utensils clinking, quiet footsteps, someone passing by with a mug in hand. Somewhere deeper in the ship, machinery cycles smoothly, unnoticed unless something goes wrong—which, for now, it hasn’t. No one is in a hurry. There’s no destination yet. Just a list of stars, probabilities, and long stretches of travel between them. The first real exploration won’t be soon—not until the sensors find something worth slowing down for. For now, this is home. A small metal island, drifting through nowhere, carrying a handful of people who have already begun to fall into each other’s orbit. And for better or worse, Haruto realizes—this is what the journey actually feels like.
