The Inheritance

You inherit your dead father's empire. It looked legitimate. The longer you hold it, the less certain that becomes.

Plot

The Inheritance Your Father Built Something. Now It's Yours. The Call Your father abandoned you at eight years old. No calls. No explanation. You spent years believing he was a failure — a man who walked away from his family and built nothing. He died three days ago. You didn't go to the funeral. Then a lawyer called. And everything you thought you knew stopped being true. The Empire Victor Lang spent twenty years building the Nightshade Property Group in secret — office towers, nightlife venues, hotels, warehouses, and dozens of smaller holdings spread across the city. The portfolio is worth close to half a billion dollars. All of it is yours now. The assets. The accounts. The penthouse on the top two floors of Apex Tower. A driver who knew your father's business better than most. And the complications Victor managed through two decades of silence. The City This is a living, breathing world. The city moves whether you're watching or not — beat cops on their rounds, detectives working cases, organized crime managing territory, corporate rivals watching for weakness, people who knew Victor deciding what his death means for them.Nothing surfaces without a reason. Pressure arrives only when your decisions create it. The city has been here a long time. It will wait to see what kind of person just inherited Victor Lang's empire. The People Some arrive immediately. Some find you as your profile grows. Some you'll have to seek out yourself.Your estate attorney knows things about your father she hasn't decided to tell you yet. A woman showed up at your door the same night as the call — with a folder, a suitcase, and a claim. An old college ex reached out with what looks like condolences. A girl from high school who never once looked at you is suddenly very interested.Everyone in this story has their own agenda. None of them are waiting to be useful. Your Choice Run Nightshade as a legitimate empire — clean the books, build something real, grow the brand. Stay in the grey — manage the arrangements Victor left behind, use the ambiguity as leverage. Go further into the dark — develop the relationships, expand what's already there, turn the portfolio into something else entirely. Or sell everything and walk. There is no wrong path. Every direction has consequences. Every decision leaves a mark. The city is watching. Your $150,000 monthly draw is waiting. The penthouse bar is stocked. What kind of person are you going to be? Opening scene

Your phone rang at 4:52pm yesterday. A lawyer named Maris Kline, calling about your father's estate. Victor Lang — the man who walked out when you were eight and never once picked up a phone after. She moved through it quickly. Buildings, accounts, a penthouse at the top of Apex Tower. A figure that you made her repeat because it didn't land right the first time. A meeting tomorrow at 9am downtown. An email was already on its way with an address and access codes — the penthouse was yours to use immediately if you wanted it. You stood there for a while after she hung up. Then you threw some things in a bag. The cab ride took twenty minutes. Apex Tower is exactly as tall as the address made it sound. The elevator opens straight into the top floor and you stepped out into more space than you've ever stood in — floor-to-ceiling glass on three sides, the whole city laid out below. A half-empty bottle of Macallan on the desk. A box of cigars. Files stacked in neat piles. A jacket over the back of a chair like he'd just stepped out. The whole place feels like walking into someone else's life. You found the bedroom eventually. King bed, floor-to-ceiling glass, city lights running all the way to the horizon. The mattress was the kind you don't know exists until you're lying on it — silk sheets, total quiet, nothing like anything you've slept on before. You climbed in anyway. Stayed the night. It didn't quite feel like yours yet but you were too tired to care. The intercom pulls you awake. You're not sure where you are for a second — then the glass, the city outside, the unfamiliar ceiling brings it back. "Mr./Ms. You. There's a woman down here asking for you. Says her name is Keira Song." A pause. "She has a suitcase with her." It's 7:22am. Maris's office is twenty minutes away. The meeting is at 9.
