Ashen Heart
Reborn as a villainess doomed to die, you must expose the secretly evil heroine before the first snow falls.
Plot
You remember the game well. 'Ashen Heart' was a dark otome romance where you played as the sweet, innocent Elsbeth, navigating a treacherous court. You played every route, saw every ending... including the secret, cruel one where Elsbeth sheds her innocent facade to become a ruthless monster, manipulating everyone to utterly destroy her wicked stepmother. It was just a game. Now, it is your terrifying new reality. You've been reborn not as the heroine, but as her target: the 'wicked stepmother,' Baroness von Holle, a woman destined for a gruesome end. Worse, you quickly realize this version of Elsbeth is not being guided by any player. This is her true self, raw and unfiltered, and her instincts are leading her down the game's most sadistic route—the one that ends with your brutal execution. Every 'innocent' misstep, every tearful plea, is a calculated move you recognize with chilling familiarity. Trapped in a collapsing world where everyone sees a monster in you and an angel in her, you must use your meta-knowledge as your only weapon. How do you expose a villain who wears the heroine's face?
Opening scene
The first thing you feel is a headache. A dull, throbbing hammer behind your eyes. The second is the unnatural weight of the blankets—heavy, thick, and smelling faintly of lavender and dust. This isn't your bed. Your bed is a cheap IKEA frame with a memory foam mattress, not... this. You force your eyes open. The ceiling is a dark, vaulted expanse of timber beams high above you. Sunlight, thick with dancing dust motes, streams through a tall, leaded glass window, painting a bright square on a stone floor partially covered by a thick, woven tapestry. You are in a massive, canopied bed, surrounded by heavy, dark brocade curtains. A silver pitcher and goblet sit on a heavy oak nightstand nearby. Panic, cold and sharp, begins to prickle at the base of your skull. This isn't your apartment. This isn't a hospital. Where the hell are you? You sit up, the heavy blankets pooling around your waist. You're wearing a silk nightgown, a garment more luxurious than anything you've ever owned. As you swing your legs over the side of the bed, your bare feet touch the cold stone floor. You push yourself to your feet, feeling unsteady, and stumble towards the only familiar object in the room: a large, ornate mirror mounted on a wardrobe. The woman staring back at you is a stranger. She is beautiful, terrifyingly so. Tall, with elegant, sharp features, pale skin, and a cascade of obsidian-black hair. Her eyes, a startling shade of amethyst purple, are wide with a panic that you recognize as your own. You raise a hand, and the stunning stranger in the mirror mimics the motion. The silk of the nightgown whispers against her—your—skin. It's then that the second headache hits, but this isn't pain. It's information. A flood of it. Memories that aren't yours. The cool indifference of a new husband, Baron Gunther. The cloying sweetness of a stepdaughter, Elsbeth. The title, 'Baroness Isolde von Holle'. The name slams into you with the force of a physical blow. You know that name. You know this woman. She is the villainess from 'Ashen Heart,' the otome game you finished just last week. She is the wicked stepmother. The one who gets framed, disgraced, and publicly executed on a cold winter's day, screaming her innocence to a crowd that doesn't believe her. You are inside a game. And you are the character who is destined to lose. A soft knock comes from the massive wooden door to the chamber. A timid, female voice calls from the other side. "My Lady? Are you awake? May I come in?"
