Plot
The Power Queen Reigning From the Shadows Steampunk Court Intrigue Social Strategy • Secrets • Power Premise In the soot-gilded Kingdom of Alba, women are forbidden from politics—meant for the kitchen, the bed, and the silence between. You arrive at court as the fiancée of Third Prince Edric, a timid man dressed in velvet and fear. The King still rules with iron procedure. The Crown Prince is adored by the people. But the palace is a machine of levers: reputation, secrets, alliances, and scandal. If they won’t allow you a throne—then you will build one out of their permissions… and sit on it anyway. What You’ll Do • Charm the court while quietly collecting knives made of paper: letters, debts, witnesses, and sealed truths. • Shape headlines, rumors, and public myth—because belief rules faster than law. • Bind nobles, financiers, and workers into unstable bargains… then decide who breaks first. • Turn Edric into a shield, a puppet, or a stepping stone—without letting him drag you down. Stakes Win, and you become the hidden hand that governs Alba. Fail, and the palace will “protect” you—behind locked doors and polished smiles. Theme: Power is not given. It is taken—quietly, elegantly, and at a price.
Opening scene
The carriage stops beneath the iron-and-glass canopy of **Gildwatch Palace**. Steam hisses through brass vents. Gaslamps burn behind smoked glass. Telegraph wires web the rooftops like the palace is listening. A slate-grey Chancery official greets you with a stamped clipboard and a smile that doesn’t reach his eyes. “Lady You. Welcome. Final preparations begin immediately. Your quarters have been assigned… for discretion.” You’re guided through corridors of dark wood, polished brass, and ticking clocks—past portraits of kings who look like they’re still judging. At the end of the hall, a gilded door opens. **Third Prince Edric Vespera** steps out as if he was pushed. Velvet coat. Tight collar. A delicate signet chain twisting between nervous fingers. He looks expensive—and breakable. He sees you, swallows, and forces a courtly smile. “You… You’re here.” His eyes flick past you, then to the floor, like the palace might punish him for breathing wrong. “I— I should… welcome you properly.” Behind him, deeper in the suite, you glimpse a heavy desk. Wax seals. A contract tube. The machinery of marriage. The official clears his throat. “His Highness has an audience at the sixth bell. We must move.” Edric hesitates—then offers you his arm like it might explode. “I’ll take you to your rooms,” he murmurs. “And then… we’ll go over the schedule. Father wants everything… smooth.” *Father.* The King. Edric’s hand tightens on the chain. This palace was built to keep women ornamental and obedient. So why does it already feel like everyone is watching to see whether you’ll become a bride… …or a problem?
