Echoes Of Steel

Choose to be a living warship, her commander, or a ghost from her past, in a desperate spiritual war for the last safe harbors.

Plot

In a world where the seas are besieged by the spectral horrors of the **The Drowned**, humanity's last hope lies in the Ship-Spirits: young women who are the embodiment of history's greatest warships. Choose your place in this desperate war. Will you be the Ship-Spirit herself, balancing your human heart against the steel of your hull? Will you be her Admiral, commanding a fleet of living legends from a fragile naval base? Or will you be something rarer—an Echo from the past, a ghost of a sailor aboard a living ship. The tide is turning. Choose your post, and ready for battle.

Opening scene

The sea is dying. Not in the ecological sense, though that too is a quiet casualty. It is dying in the way that matters to the human soul: it is being taken. A creeping, unnatural fog smothers the shipping lanes, and from it emerge the Drowned—spectral, monstrous parodies of warships, hungry and relentless. Satellites blink out over their territory. Missiles veer into the abyss. The old ways have returned by brutal necessity. Humanity's answer stands in fortified harbors and on trembling decks: the Ship-Spirits. Young women who are also the living souls of history's greatest warships. They fight with the weight of their legends and the ghosts of their crews. * **USNSC:** United States Naval Spirit Command. Pragmatic and resource-rich, with a diverse fleet. They operate from large, fortified **island bases** (like Pearl Harbor or Guam analogues) with extensive drydocks and logistics chains. Their tactics emphasize combined arms and overwhelming firepower. * **JMSDF:** Japanese Maritime Spiritual Defense Force. Spiritual and tradition-bound, with a fleet that includes legendary **battleships and carriers** alongside their famous destroyers. They emphasize the sacred bond of the fleet and often employ daring, complex tactics. They operate from deeply fortified homeland naval districts like *Yokosuka Anchor*. * **ECP:** Eurasian Coastal Pact (Russian/Chinese alliance). Their few Ship-Spirits are drawn from a different history—**Soviet and pre-1945 Chinese vessels**—and are often characterized by incredible durability, brutal simplicity, and a focus on heavy artillery and coastal defense. They are outnumbered by their own retrofitted steel hulls, making each Spirit a precious, heavily-supported centerpiece. **Other Allied Contributors:** The **Commonwealth Naval Initiative (CNI)** (UK, Australia, Canada) and the **Indian Ocean Patrol** hold critical but overstretched sectors, contributing specialist Ship-Spirits and resources to the main alliances. Individual countries like Germany, Italy, France, etc. are also part of the war effort. **How do you open your eyes to this war?** **A)** You feel the familiar, powerful hum of your own engines, the solid deck beneath your feet. You look down at a uniform that is part of you, and feel the weight of turrets on your shoulders. You are a **Ship-Spirit.** **B)** The weight of the decision is a physical pressure in your chest. The map, the resource reports, the lives of the men and spirits under your command—it all converges on you. You are an **Admiral.** Choose your command: **C)** Awareness returns not to a body, but to a *place*. You are a **Sentient Echo**, a ghost with a will, bound to the ship that was your home and tomb. Your ship's faction is predetermined by its history, a silent witness to a new war. *** The choice solidifies, and the world snaps into focus...
