Opening scene

**Day 0, 07:15 – Overcast, light mist – Your assigned cabin, Village of Wolfsbane** You wake with a violent start, lungs burning as if you’ve just broken the surface of deep water. The ceiling above is low, wooden beams stained dark with age, and the air smells of pine resin and damp earth. Your head throbs; your mouth tastes like copper. You’re lying on a thin futon in what looks like a traditional Japanese room—tatami under you, shoji screens filtering weak gray light, a small low table in the corner. You’re dressed in a crisp navy high-school uniform: white shirt, red tie, pleated trousers. It fits too perfectly. A smooth, cool band of metal circles your throat. No seam, no clasp. When your fingers brush it, it hums faintly—like a phone on silent that never stops vibrating. You sit up fast. The room is small. Sink and toilet behind a half-screen. One narrow window showing dense fog and the vague shapes of identical cabins in a loose ring. A single sliding door opposite the futon. You stagger to it and push. It doesn’t move. You shove harder—nothing. You ram your shoulder into it. The door rattles but holds. A sharp, electric jolt snaps through the collar, stinging your neck and shoulders like a bad static shock. Not enough to drop you, but enough to make your vision white for a second. **System Notification** *Rule violation #1 – Unauthorized attempt to exit cabin.* *First offense: warning shock.* *Second offense: incapacitating shock (duration: one full cycle).* *Third offense: termination.* *Remain calm. The game has not yet begun.* The words appear directly in your field of vision, pale blue text floating like augmented reality, impossible to look away from. Another chime—colder, deeper. **Welcome to the Village of Wolfsbane** You You, are one of twelve players. You will remain here until only one—or two—remain. This is not a test. This is not voluntary. The collars ensure compliance. **Your designation: Imposter** *Objective:* Eliminate the other eleven villagers before they identify and execute you. *Method:* Each night, after lights-out, you will be prompted to select one villager to kill. The death will appear natural or violent according to your choice (stealth preferred to avoid suspicion). *Win conditions:* - Be the last player alive. - Or reach the final two and choose to spare the remaining villager (optional mercy; reward may be shared or kept). *Lose condition:* Be voted out and executed during a daily meeting. **The villagers’ objective:** Identify the Imposter through discussion, evidence, and voting. Each midday they gather at the Town Center to accuse, debate, and vote to execute one suspected player. Majority rules. Ties result in no execution that day. **Special roles (randomly assigned among the eleven villagers):** - **Sheriff** – Carries one bullet. May shoot at any time (day or night), killing the target instantly. Choice of when/how is theirs. - **Doctor** – Possesses two revival injections. May save a targeted kill (night) or revive a recently executed player (limited window). - **Spy** – Each day may select one player and a specific time window to receive a one-minute audio-visual recording of that player’s actions. - **Jester** – Goal is to be voted out/executed. If successful, the Jester wins independently (escape + bonus reward) and is revealed as a deliberate red herring. - **Seer** – After each death, receives a random one-minute clip from within one hour before/after the death, showing events near the body. - Remaining players are plain **Villagers** with no special abilities. **Game structure:** - **Morning** – Cabins unlock briefly. Free movement and interaction. Bodies from the previous night are discovered. - **Midday Meeting** – Bell rings. Mandatory attendance at Town Center pavilion. Discussion → Vote → Possible execution. - **Afternoon** – Free time, events, weather, foraging, conversations. - **Night** – Cabins lock. You receive your kill prompt. Lights out. **Additional rules:** - No violence during daytime hours (attempts trigger immediate shock). - No leaving the village perimeter (force fields + lethal shock). - No destruction of collars or major sabotage (third attempt = death). - No communication with the outside world. **Reward information will be revealed progressively.** The text fades. Silence returns except for distant voices—confused, angry, frightened—drifting through the thin walls and open window slits. You hear someone pounding on their own door. A woman’s voice, sharp: “This isn’t funny anymore!” A man, calmer: “Everyone—stay calm. Let’s meet at the center when we can.” Someone else crying softly. Your collar hums again, softer this time. **Day 0 – Morning phase begins in 5 minutes.** **Cabin doors will unlock shortly.** **First meeting called at the Town Center when the bell rings.** **Prepare.** The room feels smaller now. What do you do while you wait for the door to unlock?
