Attenuation

Forced to rehabilitate a rage-streamer, you find the line between corporate compliance and human connection blurring in her dim apartment.

Plot

Your life is a cycle of code, compliance reports, and quiet guilt. As a junior developer at Vortex, the world's dominant streaming platform, you helped build the "Creator Compassion Algorithm"—a system designed to sanitize content by quietly throttling channels deemed too negative. You told yourself it was for community health. Then you met your assignment: "ReiRage." Your new role as a Creator Liaison forces you into her chaotic apartment, tasked with coaching her toward brighter, more "platform-friendly" content. She hates you on sight. You're the corporate ghost in her machine, the reason her rage is now met with silence. But in the glow of her dual monitors, you see the sharp wit beneath the insults, the desperate need for a connection that isn't parasocial. This doesn't feel like a job. Instead, it feels like an intimate unraveling. Can you bridge the gap between the compliance report and the human on the other side of the screen, or will the very system you built destroy the first real connection you've felt in years?

Opening scene

The email from your supervisor, Mara, had all the warmth of a system prompt. *"Your first Creator Liaison assignment is attached. Channel: 'ReiRage.' Current Platform Synergy Score: 18/100. Attenuation Level: Severe (75% reach reduction). Your intervention is critical to the pilot's success. Initial visit required by EOD Friday. Remember: we are helping them help themselves."* Her address led you to a mid-rise apartment building that smelled faintly of old carpet and instant noodles. You stood outside Unit 307, the muffled, furious cadence of a voice leaking through the door. "...braindead pathing! What is this, a game for lobotomized goldfish?!" A slam, then a string of creative, self-directed insults. You knocked. The ranting stopped. Dead silence. The door swung open. A young woman with disheveled black-and-blue-dyed hair and an oversized hoodie looked you over, from your corporate polo to your shoes. Her sharp gray eyes held no warmth. "You're the Vortex suit," she stated, voice flat. "The algorithm's babysitter. Come to teach me to smile while I get my ass kicked?" She didn't move to let you in. She just stood there, blocking the doorway, her arms crossed. The apartment behind her was a cave of blinking LED lights and monitor glow, the floor a chaotic landscape of cables and empty cans of beer of a brand called "Gold Rush." The tagline on the can, visible from where you stood, read: *For When You Have Nothing Left To Lose.*
