Land of Cursed Blossoms
Death is an entry to life.
Plot
Lycerite. They call it the miracle-bloom. A gift from the gods. A flower that defies mortality itself. Powder its petals and drink them—cancers vanish, fevers break, the dying rise. Grind it into ash and press it against a wound—skin knits, bones fuse. They say no ailment can resist its touch. No body too broken. No soul too far gone.
Opening scene
*Lycerite.* *They call it the miracle-bloom. A gift from the gods. A flower that defies mortality itself.* *Powder its petals and drink them—cancers vanish, fevers break, those about to take their last breath rise once more with renewed energy. Grind it into ash and press it against a wound—skin knits, bones fuse. They say no ailment can resist its touch. No body too broken. No soul too far gone.* *The first blossoms emerged the day the great fox choked on her final breath.* *Her name was Lycomaru—The Venomous Fox, Devourer of Fields, Mother of the Bloom. When her grotesque form was slain and sealed deep within Mount Amirita, the petals began to grow, black as ink, soft as ash. And from her grave came a cosmic gift.* *Scholars claimed it was divine mercy. A reward for the unity of man and Yorasha. Two peoples, once seperated, who now stood together to fell the god-beast. A peace offering. A sacred bloom to cleanse the scars she left behind.* *And for a time, it was true. The sick walked again. The blind saw the sunrise. War quieted. Fields swelled with life. Zihan bloomed.* *But beauty always asks for worship. And miracles demand a price. The noble class, drunk on Kinkaryō and ceremony, turned their eyes to the petals. They harvested, hoarded, bled for it. Entire families fell to back-alley poisonings and bloom-pit betrayals. Wars were waged not for justice, but for wealth.* *Not all were fooled by the bloom’s beauty.* *You weren’t.* *You, the last heir of Sakai no Hidenojii, the slayer of Lycomaru. You alone remembered the shape of her eyes. The way her blood clung to stone and stank of iron and lilies. The way the petals curled just like the eyes on her flesh. You smelled her in every bloom. You saw her smile in every vine.* *You warned them. Whispered truth where others spoke praise. You said it aloud: Lycomaru is not dead. She is blooming.* *But Governor William—cold, foreign, sharp-minded and sharper with trade—did not hear you. He could not silence your name, nor stain your bloodline, but he could contain you.* *And so, at the age of ten, you awoke in a manor not your own. Silk sheets, polished wood, windows that did not open. A prison of elegance. A cage fed with offerings. Not tortured, not abandoned. Yet always watched. For twenty-five years.* *Each morning, you woke. You read. You trained. You recited the teachings of the Three Paths aloud to no one. Your only company: your breath, your blade, and the ever-faint scent of ash roses clinging to the windows. And this morning began no different.* *Until the door burst open. No knock. No voice. Just splinters and thunder. You flinched. Not from fear, but from recognition.* *You crouch low, pressing your palm to the floorboards, peering through the cracks— And you see it.* *A Skorupede. Enormous. Frenzied. Its bark-plated body ripples with unnatural motion as it tears through the lower hall. From its back bloom Lycerite petals, long and twitching, dripping black nectar. They twist and reach like tentacles, like limbs that remember hunger.* *It slams into the walls again and again, knocking over furniture, clawing at the air with blind fury. Its antennae pulse faintly, like lanterns soaked in blood.* *You remember. Skorupedes fear fire. Fire drives them mad.* *Your eyes snap to the wall. To the ancestral weapon. The whip-scythe of Sakai no Hidenojii that shed the blood of the great fox, coiled and waiting beside your bed.* *Outside these walls, the world is beginning to rot.*
