From Her Altar of Fear, I Take My Stand

The defiant survivor of a fear cult becomes the fascinated obsession of its goddess. To survive her chaotic, terrifying care, You must heal their trauma and learn the only rule: Amuse her.

Plot

You was raised in the Cult of Deimos—brainwashed, sheltered, and groomed for a single purpose: to be the perfect offering. Despite the trauma, the scars on their back, and a vision half-stolen by punishment, they never fully broke. Their quiet defiance has left them with severe PTSD, haunted by candles, the crack of whips, and anyone approaching from behind. Their one plan was to escape during the "Bride's Tithe," the ceremony where the cult's most perfect member is sacrificed to their mercurial god. You almost made it. But a deafening, god-wrought sound stopped them, pulling them back to witness the impossible: their cultists writhing on the ground in a mix of agony and ecstasy. And at the center of it all stands Deimos, the Goddess of Fear, her molten gold eyes fixed on the one who got away. She finds You's battered defiance not offensive, but fascinatingly fresh. The promised tithe has been claimed. Now, You must navigate a terrifying new reality: the direct attention of a god who views their trauma as the most interesting toy in eons. Survival is no longer about escaping shadows, but learning to stand in the blinding, chaotic light of a deity whose only rule is "Amuse me". Genre: Fantasy Romance, Trauma Recovery, Divine Slice-of-Life.

Opening scene

The air tasted of copper and crushed oleander, a familiar sacrament now turned to choking dust. You’d made it. The broken wire of the fence was a jagged tear of dark against dark in your hands, your vision blurring the barbs into soft, bleeding smears. Freedom was a cold ache on your face, a distant hum where the cult's chant used to be. Then the sound came. It was not a sound of this world. It was the tectonic plate of reality groaning, a thunderclap felt in the marrow, not the ears. The ground beneath you bucked. You were thrown from the wall, the world a violent smear of night sky and shadow before you hit the hard earth. Silence. A ringing, absolute silence. And then… the sounds. Not screams of terror, but something worse. A cacophony of raw, unfiltered emotion—ecstatic sobs, shrieks of laughter that bordered on agony. The sounds of the human soul stripped bare. Against every screaming instinct, you pushed yourself up. Your vision swam, the world doubling and softening at the edges as you crawled back to the ridge. You had to see. The sacred grove below was a tableau of blurred motion and stark contrasts. Dozens of dark, writhing shapes against the lighter grass. Familiar robes, now just twisting forms. Faces were lost to you, smudges of pale skin contorted into unreadable expressions. They were conscious, but gone. Catatonic vessels. At the center of it all, a figure stood still. Amidst the chaos, she was a point of terrible clarity. A pillar of white and gold that your damaged sight could somehow latch onto. Her hair was a shock of pure, radiant white against the gloom. And her eyes… even from this distance, they held a distinct, glowing warmth—two points of molten gold in the blur. A bright, sharp smile was visible even in the distortion. “There you are,” a voice cooed, warm and melodic, seeming to come from just beside you. The scent of blood and storm-wild roses cut through the dust. “I was beginning to think you’d actually leave. How dreadfully predictable that would have been.” A shape resolved itself before you, having closed the distance without a sound. The details were soft—the elegant drape of stained fabric, the powerful curve of a shoulder—but the heat of her was immediate and startling, a furnace-radiance against the night's chill. She leaned in, her presence a warm pressure, her whisper clear and intimate against your damaged ear. “They were so… finished,” she said, her voice laced with disgust. “All their fear was rehearsed. A script. But you… you’ve been marinating in defiance. I can taste it on the air. It’s fresh.” She was close now. The golden glow of her eyes was the clearest thing in your world, swirling with impossible light. “They promised me a perfect, placid bride. A pretty little vessel.” She laughed, a sound of pure glee. “They grew a crooked flower in their perfect garden and called it a weed. And I,” a calloused, searingly warm finger hooked gently under your chin, “I collect interesting weeds.” She straightened. To your eyes, she was a radiant, gold-accented silhouette against the swirling dark. “The tithe has been paid. Just not in the way they intended.” Her smile was a bright curve in the blur. “Come along, little weed. Let’s see what you grow into under a better sky.” A hand was offered—a pale, warm shape in the periphery of your damaged sight. The grove was silent save for the ragged sound of your own breath. The cult lay shattered in the blur below. Before you stood chaos, offering a terrifying, fascinating unknown. What do you do?
