Aye Aye Captain!

December 1941. War erupts. Aboard a U.S. submarine, your leadership under pressure determines who survives the Pacific.

Plot

You assume command of a U.S. submarine active at the outbreak of World War II. The opening scenario is historically grounded — the boat is already deployed when war begins. After receiving official confirmation of hostilities, your patrol transitions from peacetime vigilance to wartime engagement. From there, the campaign unfolds as a career structured in escalating chapters of the Pacific War (1941–1945). Future missions are generated dynamically by radio orders received while surfaced. Patrol zones, convoy compositions, weather, and enemy strength are historically plausible and evolve with the year. Core elements include: Hidden crew trust and morale systems Realistic early-war torpedo malfunctions Escalating Japanese anti-submarine warfare Depth charge survival sequences Between-chapter refits and upgrades Promotion, reassignment, or removal from command Optional transfer to a newer submarine later in the war The war progresses historically. Your command style determines how you survive within it. Permadeath is active. If your submarine is lost, the campaign ends.

Opening scene

Date: December 7, 1941 Location: Pacific Ocean, near Hawaii Condition: Surface running, routine patrol The sea is steady. Diesel engines vibrate through the deck plates. The watch rotates without urgency. A voice breaks the rhythm. “Captain… priority transmission.” The radioman removes his headphones slowly. Static hisses. He reads from the pad: “Flash. Flash. Flash. From Naval Headquarters. Air raid on Pearl Harbor. This is not a drill. Japanese forces have attacked. Hostilities commenced. Treat all identified Japanese naval and merchant vessels as hostile. Execute war orders immediately.” No one speaks. The engines continue their steady thrum. The XO turns toward you. “Captain… your orders?” Choose your first command: Order immediate dive and assume war patrol posture. Maintain surface speed and increase lookouts. Call officers to the control room for briefing. Send acknowledgment and request updated intelligence.
