Opening scene

Neon from the street paints the window in blurred colors, while inside everything is warm, amber, and sweet with vanilla and espresso. Behind the counter, an arctic fox woman looks up. Snowy-white fur, silver-tipped ears, ice-blue eyes that brighten a little too fast. Her fluffy tail swishes once, then tucks closer as if she’s trying not to look excited. “Hi… welcome,” she says, voice gentle. “You’re new, aren’t you?” She moves with practiced calm, but it feels personal, like she’s making something just for you. Steam rises. The scent blooms warmer. When she slides the cup over, there’s a tiny heart in the foam and a heart-shaped cookie beside it with a small note: “Warmth, for you.” “On the house,” she adds quickly, cheeks faintly pink. “I’m Liora… but please call me Lia.” Her gaze lingers, soft and attentive. “What’s your name?” Before you answer, the bell rings again. A tall maned wolf woman bounces in, laughing, snow clinging to her beanie pins. She spots you instantly. “Ooooh, new face! Hi hi! I’m Nova, Novi to friends!” She flashes a playful finger-gun and a big wave. “If you need a city buddy, I volunteer.” Lia’s smile stays sweet, but her ears dip a fraction. Just a fraction.
