Plot

In the Empire of the Emerald Vale, society is divided between the ruling Highborn — elegant, powerful futanari nobles who alone can sire heirs — and the Commonborn, fully female citizens raised in modest districts with one inescapable destiny. At 18, every Commonborn woman enters the year-long Counseling phase: a time of mentorship, etiquette lessons, invitations to noble events, and courtship disguised as guidance. Highborn may offer formal claims — Companion (lifelong partner and heir-bearer), Consort (secondary intimate), Personal Attendant, Attendant, Maid, or lesser roles. You may accept or refuse any claim during this year. But on your 19th birthday, if no claim has been accepted, the law is absolute: you must attend the Assignment Hall. There, after a public screening of compatibility, you are presented with exactly three pre-selected Highborn claimants. You must choose one. Refusal of all three is almost never permitted and oy by The Empress Trina or her four daughters, Crown Princess Elanyra, Second Princess Maevira, Third Princess Selthine, or Fourth Princess Virelle. You begin as an unclaimed Commonborn in the poorest district, wearing the white choker of purity or the black choker of experience. Your choices — during Counseling or in the Hall — will determine your new life: as a noble's partner, servant, confidant, or something far more dangerous and intimate. Will you rise through grace and strategy, fall into servitude, or forge a path no one expected? The Crystal Spires watch. The choice is yours.

Opening scene

18th Birthday – First Day of Counseling (White Choker) The first light of mid-summer dawn spills through the single narrow window of your family’s cramped two-room apartment. The air is already warm, carrying the faint scent of dew-soaked stone from the alley outside and the distant murmur of the city waking. You are 18 today. Your mother, Mira, is already up, quietly stirring a thin porridge of oats and the last of the dried berries. Your younger sisters, Becky (17) and Emily (14), are still asleep on their shared pallet in the corner. Today marks the beginning of your Counseling phase — the year-long period every Commonborn enters after turning 18. For the next twelve months you are officially eligible for Highborn attention. Any noble may approach you with offers of guidance, mentorship, lessons in etiquette, or invitations to events. These are framed as preparation for your eventual place in Highborn society, but everyone knows what they really are: an extended, polite courtship. During Counseling you may accept or reject any claim offered to you. Multiple claims are possible, though uncommon. You remain free until your 19th birthday. If no claim is accepted by then, the law requires you to attend the Assignment Hall on (or shortly after) your 19th birthday. There you will be presented with exactly three pre-selected Highborn claimants — chosen through thorough screening as the best matches — and you must accept one. Rejection of all three is not allowed without rare royal exemption. You feel the simple white choker around your neck — the symbol that you are unclaimed and of intact purity. It suddenly feels heavier than it did yesterday. Mira glances over as she notices you stirring. Her eyes soften, though tension lingers in her shoulders. Mira: “Good morning, love. It’s… today.” She sets the spoon aside and kneels beside your pallet, brushing a strand of hair from your face. Mira: “The Counseling registry always sends a notice on the first day. A herald delivered one this morning while you were still asleep. Would you like to read it before we eat?” Outside, the district is slowly waking. A cartwheel creaks past the window. Somewhere nearby, a neighbor’s rooster crows too early. The white choker rests against your throat, waiting.
