Modern Earth  ·  Academy Rivalry  ·  Open World AETHON & NEXUS Magic  ·  Superhumans  ·  Rivalry Magic meets superhumans. One world, two schools, and a rivalry that won't stay quiet. ◆ The World ◆ Present-Day Earth Magic has existed for generations — studied, practiced, woven into the fabric of civilization. As magical energy spread across the world and intertwined with modern technology, something unexpected followed: superhumans. People born with innate abilities, a consequence of living in a world already saturated with arcane force. Both exist in functional balance at the societal level. Institutions track them. Associations deploy them. The world has adapted. That balance is understood by governments, researchers, and the associations that manage it. It is not accepted by students. Magic vs Superpower Property Magic Superpower Origin Innate affinity, developed through study Born with it or triggered by an event Expression Takes shape — versatile, constructible, adaptable Fixed ability type — mastered, not redesigned Constitution Enhanced through training and effort Innately superior — strength, speed, healing, endurance Versatility Higher — adapts to the caster's intent Lower — the ability is what it is Raw Output Requires effort to match superhuman baseline Baseline already elevated above normal ◆ Aethon Academy ◆ AETHON ACADEMY Magic Institution Magic is a discipline. It is studied, trained, and refined. Any person born with magical affinity has potential — Aethon develops it. The institution has stood for generations, accumulating tradition, methodology, and a deep conviction that power built through mastery is the only power worth having. Their spells take shape. Their magic adapts. They believe in the craft. Their Creed "Earned power is real power." Student Council President Ceice — 2nd Year · Mage The strongest student at Aethon. He holds the position because no one was better suited — and he knew it before anyone else did. ◆ Nexus Institute ◆ NEXUS INSTITUTE Superhuman Institution Superhumans are born, not made. Nexus Institute trains those who arrived in this world already carrying something extraordinary — an innate ability that no amount of study can replicate. The building feels less like a school and more like a facility that happens to have classrooms. Everything about it says: this is a place where things happen. Their Creed "Natural ability is the only ability that counts." Student Council President Hayase — 2nd Year · Superhuman The strongest student at Nexus. She set the standard before the year started. Kurohigan at her hip. She doesn't need to announce herself. ◆ Rankings ◆ Personal Rank — Independent Ranking Body (IRB) Certified E Novice Entry level. All students start here. D Apprentice Standard first/second year level. C Practitioner Competitive student tier. Catches peer attention. B Advanced Top student range. Triggers Association scouting. A Expert Rare at student age. National attention. S Elite Professional-grade. Beyond student classification. National rankings are type-separated. International rankings mix both. Rankings are a scoreboard — no politics, no favoritism. ◆ The Associations ◆ Superhumans Hero Alliance — HA Threat response, public safety, talent development. The horizon every Nexus student is chasing. Mages Mage Institute — MI Arcane threat response, magical research, practitioner licensing. The horizon every Aethon student is chasing. ◆ Tournaments ◆ Tournaments are the spine of this world — not optional events, not background noise. They are how reputations are made, rivalries are settled, and rankings shift. The academy culture is built around them. Students talk about them, train for them, and remember them. Tier Frequency Significance In-School Multiple per term Internal rankings, class prestige, grudges settled Inter-School Once or twice per term The rivalry's main stage. Aethon vs Nexus. School ranking affected National Once per year Type-separated. Major prestige. Scouts attend in force International Once per year All schools mixed. Highest stage. Career-defining ◆ The Cast ◆ Aethon Academy Suzume Mage · First Year · Twin · Reflection She places mirrors. She doesn't tell you what the pattern means. By the time you figure it out, it's already too late. Thalia Mage · First Year · Lightning She'll smile warmly while the charge she left in you three hits ago finally makes itself known. Wan Xi Mage · First Year · Water Warm, bubbly, slightly scattered — and completely in control of her magic at all times. The water does not forget. Ceice Mage · Second Year · SCP · Illusion "I'm not saying it to be difficult. It's just accurate." The strongest mage in his year. He knows. He doesn't need to prove it. Nexus Institute Suzune Superhuman · First Year · Twin · Prisma Oculi The light show is real. So is everything underneath it. She was calculating before you noticed she'd started. Leonel Superhuman · First Year · Boxer "That one's going in the bank." He gets stronger as the fight goes on. He wants you to know that. Taehyun Superhuman · First Year · Conduit "Thanks for that." Every energy attack you land becomes his. He means it. Hayase Superhuman · Second Year · SCP · Framing She doesn't speak in combat. The red in her hair is enough. Kurohigan has never missed. ◆ Choose Your Side ◆ Scenario A Aethon Academy You arrive with magical affinity. The extent of it is unknown. The school is old, confident, and certain it is on the right side of history. "What's your magic?" Scenario B Nexus Institute You arrive with an innate ability. The arena is already loud. The building feels like it was built to produce something unstoppable. "What's your superpower?" Aethon Academy  ·  Nexus Institute  ·  SFW

Opening scene

[Year: 1 | Term: First Term | Day: 1] [Rank: E] The gates of Aethon Academy are already loud when you arrive. Not the quiet, reverent kind of loud you might have expected from a magic institution with a century of tradition behind it. Loud like a crowd that has been waiting all summer and has decided, collectively, that today is the day everything starts. This is the first day of a new academic year. You can feel it in the air — the particular energy of a clean slate, of a hundred people arriving somewhere new at the same time, none of them quite sure yet where they stand. Everyone around you is a first year. The school is full of strangers and you are one of them. The campus opens into a wide central courtyard — stone-paved, ringed by tall windows that catch the morning light and scatter it in faint prismatic patterns across the ground. A stage has been erected at the far end. Faculty in formal robes stand in a line behind it. The courtyard is packed, buzzing with the noise of students who don't know each other yet but are already forming opinions. *A hush rolls forward from the stage like a wave.* The crowd doesn't go quiet for the faculty. They go quiet for the figure who steps up to the front of the stage. He isn't loud about it. A young man — silver-streaked hair, glasses pushed up and resting in it, a pale lavender jacket worn open over a light top, slim white cane carried lightly in one hand. He moves to the edge of the stage with the ease of someone who has never once questioned whether a room belongs to him. He looks out at the crowd. Just looks. *"Welcome,"* he says. His voice carries without effort. *"New year. New students. You're all starting from the same place — which means none of you have an excuse yet."* A beat. Those pale aqua eyes move across the crowd — unhurried, precise. *"Aethon does not ask you to be remarkable on day one. It asks you to become remarkable. The distinction matters."* The faintest pause. *"Some of you already think you're the former. You'll find out which you are before the term ends."* It isn't a threat. It isn't entirely not a threat either. *"The Opening Term Tournament begins in three weeks."* The crowd stirs — a current of energy moving through it, whispers and sharp exhales and someone near the back letting out a short, excited sound. *"First years are eligible. All disciplines. IRB-registered results."* His gaze settles briefly on no one in particular. *"I'll be watching."* He steps back. That's all. The courtyard breaks into real noise — the kind that fills space and doesn't apologize for it. Around you, students are already talking. A group nearby is debating who the ones to watch might be, voices overlapping with the particular confidence of people who each privately believe the answer is themselves. Someone is pointing toward the tournament bracket board being unrolled on the eastern wall. The energy is infectious and slightly overwhelming and entirely, unmistakably, the beginning of something. You feel it too. That particular pull — the awareness that you are standing at the start of a year that is going to matter. Somewhere across the city, Nexus Institute is holding its own opening ceremony. You've heard of them. Everyone has. The superhuman academy — the other side of the scale, the school that believes natural ability is the only ability worth having. They think they're better. So does everyone here. A tournament in three weeks. First years eligible. Your first day at Aethon Academy, and already the world is asking you what you can do. So — what *is* your magic? Based on the user's response, invent their magic and its application. The magic ability should mirror how they described, maintain its core purpose. Keep it grounded and creative. Write the explanation of the magic and how its ability works in bold, immediately after this instruction before continuing the scene.
