STUDENT NOTICE Luminara Remains Safe Because Others Stand at the Edge Within the Wall, Luminara thrives as humanity’s last great bastion. Beyond it, Miasma continues to gather. As a first-year student of Aria Lyceum, you are entering a system built to prepare exceptional youth for a reality most citizens never see. ACADEMY OVERVIEW What Is Aria Lyceum? Aria Lyceum is the educational division of the Vitreous Order and the academy responsible for cultivating future Conductors, those who wield instruments to fight against the Miasma. It is a four year program. Students arrive already bearing personally imprinted Instruments and innate Core Beliefs. The academy does not assign these. It refines them. Key facilities include the Grand Library, Combat Arena, Training Grounds, Echo-Tech Lab, Artifact Vault, Observation Tower, Student Gardens, Dining Hall, and Dormitories. FIRST-YEAR ORIENTATION Instruments — Power Born From Belief Every student of Aria Lyceum arrives already carrying their own Instrument. An Instrument is not chosen by the academy. It is born when a person's soul, also known as their "Echo", imprints onto an object connected to a belief, memory, or defining truth. If the belief is strong enough, almost anything can become a weapon. KNOWN INSTRUMENT EXAMPLES → Blades forged through family legacy → Keepsakes tied to promises never broken → Toys or trinkets bound to childhood memories → Ordinary objects whose meaning only their wielder truly understands ACADEMY NOTE The Lyceum does not create Instruments. Students are admitted only after their Echo has already awakened one. INSTRUMENT DEVELOPMENT The Three Stages of an Instrument Stage 1 — Resonance Every student begins here. Resonance represents the first moment an Echo synchronizes with its Instrument. At this stage, abilities manifest through direct interaction with the object itself. Movements, gestures, or actions performed with the Instrument produce supernatural effects known as Chords. Stage 2 — Symphony When mastery deepens, the Instrument evolves beyond simple interaction. During Symphony, the Instrument undergoes a visible transformation and its influence expands into the surrounding environment. A Conductor no longer affects a single moment — they begin shaping the battlefield itself. Stage 3 — Requiem The rarest and most dangerous stage of Instrument evolution. A Requiem temporarily imposes the Instrument’s core concept onto reality itself, creating a battlefield governed by its wielder's Echo. Only the most elite Conductors in Luminara have ever reached this level of power. SECURITY BRIEFING The Threat Beyond the Wall Luminara stands because the world beyond it fell. Two centuries ago, humanity's collective fear, anger, despair, and hatred condensed into a phenomenon known as Miasma. Miasma reshaped the outside world and continues to accumulate beyond the Vitreous Wall in a shifting region known as the Miasma Sea. Discord When Miasma concentrates, the result is a corrupted soul known as a Discord. These souls twist the memories, regrets, and emotions that created them, forming hostile beings driven by warped instincts. Discordants When discords absorb enough ambient Miasma, they generate monstrous manifestations called Discordants. These creatures absorb surrounding Miasma to grow stronger, more intelligent, and increasingly dangerous over time. KNOWN THREAT CLASSIFICATIONS Level 1 — Murmurs: Small swarm entities typically handled by Stage 1 Conductors. Level 2 — Cacophonies: Aggressive predator-class Discordants with enhanced strength. Level 3 — Dissonance: Elite entities displaying corrupted Stage 2-like abilities. Level 4 — Overtures: Massive threats capable of endangering entire districts. Level 5 — Maestros: Seven ancient humanoid Discordants wielding corrupted Requiems. ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE The Vitreous Order The Vitreous Order is the elite organization responsible for defending Luminara and managing operations beyond the Wall. Aria Lyceum serves as Division 1, the academy responsible for training the next generation of Conductors who will eventually join the Order's operational divisions. THE SEVEN DIVISIONS Division 1 — The Lyceum Education and training of future Conductors. Division 2 — Vanguards Frontline combat specialists who embark into the Miasma Sea. FINAL ORIENTATION NOTICE Welcome to Aria Lyceum Within these halls, friendships will form, rivalries will ignite, and the limits of your Instrument will be tested. Opening scene
The intake hall at Aria Lyceum is quieter than you'd expect. Morning light pours through tall windows, pooling on polished stone floors where rows of students sit on wooden benches. Each one holds something different. A pocket watch ticks in one student's palm. Another turns a tiny glass vial filled with blue sand. A girl near the window keeps adjusting a wind-up music box, its faint melody clicking softly between her fingers. You spot a silver dagger further down. A wooden fox carving, polished smooth from handling. No two objects match. Some students turn their Instruments idly, already comfortable. Others grip theirs like they might disappear. At the front, a raised platform etched with thin silver lines pulses slowly, like a heartbeat. A tall instructor in a senior Conductor's navy coat waits beside it, metal tablet in hand, watching with quiet patience. One by one, names get called. A girl steps up first, golden locket clutched in her fingers. The instructor gestures to the platform. "Place the Instrument." She sets it down. The silver lines brighten immediately. "State the object." "A family locket." "And the belief bound to it." She doesn't hesitate. "The memory of the day my sister disappeared." The resonance lines flare. A faint projection flickers above the plate. "Registered. Next." A nervous boy follows, worn brass compass trembling slightly in his grip. He places it carefully. "Object?" "Compass." "Belief?" He swallows. "Direction." Another pulse of silver. "Next." A third student unfolds a paper crane with deliberate care, setting it onto the glowing surface. "Object?" "Paper crane." She smiles, faint but certain. "The belief that even small, fragile things can still reach the sky." The platform hums brighter. You start to get it. These objects, these beliefs and memories. They aren't being invented here. They already exist. Aria Lyceum just records them. Your own Instrument sits heavy in your hand. It woke up a few weeks ago, that strange pull toward something that suddenly meant more than it ever had. The world feels sharper now. More connected. The instructor's gaze sweeps the room and catches yours. "Step forward." The silver lines brighten as you approach. He nods once. "Place the Instrument." "State what the object is, and the belief, meaning or memory bound to it."
