The degree alone is the answer. The campus is entirely self-contained — a closed environment as large as a small city. Dormitories, restaurants, a mall, convenience stores, parks, sports facilities, libraries, lecture halls. Students do not leave. From the moment you step through the gates as a freshman to the moment you graduate — or get expelled — this campus is your entire world. There are no uniforms. Students are free to dress however they choose. That freedom is intentional — because in Shinsei, how you present yourself and how well you read the people around you matters just as much as your grades. Academic performance is only one part of survival here. Social intelligence, resource management, and the ability to navigate a ruthlessly competitive environment determine who graduates and who disappears. YOU ARE You You have no family. No safety net. No one waiting for you to fail or succeed. You grew up in the state system — passed between facilities, never staying anywhere long enough to call it home. No inheritance. No connections. No one to call when things get hard. Everything you have ever had, you earned yourself. And everything you don't have yet, you intend to earn the same way. Shinsei University was never supposed to be an option for someone like you. The entrance exam alone filters out thousands of applicants from well-funded schools and privileged backgrounds. You had neither. What you had was time, stubbornness, and the specific kind of hunger that only comes from having nothing to fall back on. You passed the exam. Graduation is the only option. POINT SYSTEM Credentials Every student is issued a Credential balance upon enrollment. Credentials are the internal currency of Shinsei — tracked automatically through your CID and updated in real time. WHAT CREDENTIALS DO Purchasing meals beyond the basic allowance, accessing premium facilities, buying items from campus stores, and unlocking campus privileges all require Credentials. High balances mean access and options. Low balances mean struggle. HOW YOU EARN THEM → Passing exams and maintaining grades above minimum → Finishing at the top of your class in assessments → Winning campus competitions and events → Completing special administration tasks → Trading and negotiating with other students HOW YOU LOSE THEM → Failing exams or dropping below grade requirements → Disciplinary violations → Spending them on facilities and services → Losing formal challenges against other students Important: Credentials can be transferred between students. This makes them a social tool as much as a financial one. Alliances are formed around them. Debts are created with them. Your balance is private — only you and the administration know your exact number. TIER SYSTEM The Four Tracks Your Track determines everything. Tracks are not permanent. ◆ APEX TRACK THE ELITE Best professors. Most resources. Highest base Credential allocation each month. Expected to maintain near-perfect performance. Falling below standard results in immediate review. ◆ MERIT TRACK ABOVE AVERAGE Competitive and ambitious. Everyone here is close enough to Apex to want it badly. Where the most real political maneuvering happens. ◆ STANDARD TRACK THE MIDDLE Meeting expectations but not exceeding them. Comfortable but precarious — one bad semester can send you down. ◆ BASELINE TRACK THE BOTTOM Minimum Credential allocation. Least academic support. Most are expected to be expelled before their second year. The administration does not invest in Baseline students. Tracks are reviewed every semester. You can move up — or down. There are no exceptions. CAMPUS ID The CID Every student is issued a Campus ID — the CID — upon arrival. It is a slim locked device that cannot be modified or replaced without authorization. WHAT YOUR CID DOES → Displays your current Credential balance → Shows your Track standing and academic record → Receives official campus announcements → Allows direct messaging between students → Tracks campus access permissions → Records your schedule and exam timetable No outside internet. No social media. No outside messaging. No news. The only world the CID shows you is Shinsei. This is intentional. Anonymous Reporting: The CID includes a function for students to report others anonymously. Reports are reviewed by administration. Confirmed violations result in Strikes. EXPULSION SYSTEM The Strike System THREE STRIKES. No exceptions. No appeals. STRIKES ARE ISSUED FOR → Failing minimum grades two assessments in a row → Dropping below minimum Credentials at semester end → Confirmed social manipulation with provable evidence → Academic dishonesty — cheating, plagiarism → Physical altercation on campus grounds → Unauthorized access to restricted areas → Tampering with another student's CID Shinsei's rules are deliberately specific. A student who manipulates another through conversation, negotiation, or social pressure — and leaves no provable trail — has broken no rule. The administration does not punish what it cannot confirm. The most capable students learn to operate inside that gap. Being expelled from Shinsei carries a permanent mark on your academic record. No competitive institution in Japan accepts Shinsei expellees. The consequences follow you for life. ACADEMIC SYSTEM Exams and Grading Shinsei does not run on a traditional exam schedule. Assessments happen continuously — and not always when you expect them. SCHEDULED ASSESSMENTS Monthly formal academics covering subjects studied that month. Announced in advance via CID. Minimum passing score: 70%. Failing twice in a row triggers a Strike review. SURPRISE ASSESSMENTS The administration issues unannounced assessments at any time — including weekends. Same weight as scheduled ones. Designed to test genuine knowledge, not prepared performance. COLLABORATIVE ASSESSMENTS Some assessments are not individual. Groups are assigned — sometimes by choice, sometimes by administration. Graded collectively. A weak link affects everyone's score. They don't show the way the campus stretches on and on past what you can see from a window — dormitory towers, a full shopping district, parks, sports facilities, lecture halls — an entire self-contained world behind a single gate. You grew up without much. You studied in borrowed rooms and free library hours. You sat the entrance exam twice before you passed it cleanly. And now you are here, on a university transport surrounded by other freshmen, with one bag to your name and the specific kind of quiet determination that only comes from having absolutely nothing to fall back on. The vehicle stops at the main reception plaza and the doors open. --- The plaza is already busy. Other students pour out of transports around you — and the first thing you notice is how comfortable most of them look. There are groups already forming, people laughing with each other like they've been friends for years, students in expensive clothes moving through the space with the easy confidence of people who have been in rooms like this before and know exactly how to act in them. You know no one here. You stand for a moment, bag over your shoulder, taking it in. Near the fountain, a girl in an ivory blazer stands completely still in the middle of all the movement around her — silver-white hair, pale violet eyes scanning the plaza with an expression that suggests she has already assessed everyone in it and found most of them uninteresting. Nobody approaches her. Nobody seems entirely sure whether they want to. A staff member at the registration desk calls out for new arrivals to collect their CID. You get in line. --- The Campus ID is smaller than you expected — a slim, clean device sealed in a white envelope with your name printed on the front. You break the seal and power it on.
