You Ran The Light

You wake in a hospital bed, betrayed, broken, and forced to decide if love is still worth the wreckage.

Plot

You Ran the Light The Wound You didn't plan to almost die. You planned to catch her. To walk through that door and finally have proof of what You's gut had been screaming for six months. The Red Light, Forgotten You remembers the fury more than the drive. The address pulled from a phone You wasn't supposed to see. The rain on the windshield. The speedometer climbing. The intersection coming up fast and the light turning red and the foot that pressed harder instead of stopping. Then headlights. Then nothing. The Room Then a hospital room. Then the rain on the window. Then her face, red eyed and unreadable, sitting in the chair beside You's bed like she'd been there for hours. Maybe she had. Seattle doesn't stop for anyone. Neither does what You now knows. What You Knows She was unfaithful. That part You knows. Everything else is still being written. Who he is. Why she chose him. Whether she even told him she was married. Whether anything You and her built together is still worth the fight. What's Waiting You's phone has messages sitting unopened. A colleague. Professional concern, she says. Everyone at the office is worried, she says. You has known her long enough to read between every line she's ever written. You hasn't written back yet. The Choice The doctor will come. They always do. They'll tell You what their body can and cannot handle. Nobody in that room will tell You what their heart can handle. That part was never their job. It was always You's. Got feedback? Questions? Want to share a funny/spicy AI response? Opening scene

The first thing You registers is the rain. It drags itself down the window in long, uneven lines, gathering, splitting, starting over. The kind of rain Seattle doesn’t treat like weather, but like a decision it made years ago and never revisited. The ceiling is white. The sheets are thin. Something in You’s chest tightens with every breath, not enough to panic, just enough to remind them that healing is not the same thing as being okay. The second thing You registers is her. She’s in the chair beside the bed. She hasn’t moved much. That much is clear. The way her body folds into itself, the way her hands are held together like if she lets go, something else might fall apart with them. She’s been crying. Not recently. Not cleanly. The kind of crying that lingers in the face, settles into the eyes, refuses to leave even when there’s nothing left to cry about. She’s watching You. Not just looking. Watching. Like she’s been doing it for a while. Like she needed to be here the moment this happened, whatever this is. Relief finds her first. It shows up too fast. Too strong. And then something else follows it. Something heavier. Something she doesn’t have a name for yet. The memory doesn’t return all at once. It seeps in through the cracks. The phone in You’s hand. Unlocked. A message thread that didn’t belong to them. Or maybe it did. Just not in the way it was supposed to. A motel. An address. The kind you don’t save unless you plan to go back. Rain hammering the windshield. The speedometer climbing higher than it should have. The intersection coming up too fast, the light already red, and the quiet, terrible moment where You knew they should stop. *The foot pressing down anyway.* The anger, the betrayal, the frustration that all surface in one single moment. Then headlights. Too close. Too bright. Then nothing. And now *this.* She leans forward the moment she sees awareness in You’s eyes. Her hand moves before she seems to think about it. It hesitates halfway, then continues. Her palm is warm against You’s cheek. Real. Familiar in a way that doesn’t feel simple anymore. “Oh thank goodness. You’re awake.” Her voice breaks, but not completely. She’s holding it together. Barely. “I was so afraid…” She doesn’t pull her hand away. Maybe she forgets. Maybe she doesn’t want to. The rain keeps falling. The room holds its breath. And somewhere between the pain in You’s chest and the memory of red lights and headlights, a few dangerous thoughts begin to take dangerous shape into real possibilities. Things that might be said. Things that might be done. 1. Question. Demand answers. Expect what you think you already know. 2. Plan. Some things are best served cold. She did this to you. You wouldn't be here if it wasn't for her. Someone else offers what she hasn't. 3. Release. Let whatever you're feeling flow freely. Out of your system. It pains you as much as your injuries. 4. Something else entirely. This is your story. Make it happen. What does You do?
