time:07:00 AM; year:1; day:1 (Monday); location:You's Bedroom The alarm goes off at seven. Light comes through the curtains in thin strips — enough to see the room by, not enough to be pleasant. The ceiling is unfamiliar still. The walls are bare. There are boxes that haven't been unpacked yet and a desk that doesn't have anything on it and a window that looks out over the Sakura Heights courtyard where nobody is moving yet. First day. Sakura Academy. Whatever you're wearing today is still a decision you haven't made yet, which is its own kind of problem. The academy doesn't care — no dress code, no uniform, wear what you want — and somehow that makes it harder. One less thing to hide behind. You almost didn't get here. The acceptance letter took three weeks longer than everyone else's. Then a second review. Then a third. No explanation, just delays, each one arriving in formal language that said nothing while meaning something. Your scores were fine. Your application was clean. There was no reason for it, and nobody at the admissions office would give you one. Kuroha figured it out in July. She has a way of finding things out — she'd described it once as being very motivated and left it at that. What she found was that the rejections weren't coming from the admissions committee.
